Woah :D REALLY awesome looking. How did you get it so sturdy? Specifically, the top section, it seems like without columns or something inside the NES, the top section would bend in if you applied pressure (legos aren't THAT strong). Yet obviously, the NES doesn't allow for columns / cross braces or anything like that. So how did you do it? Also, did you use anything to hold the bricks together? I thought that if I were to use legos to mod something, a little bit of glue between bricks and then a clear coat finish over top of the bricks (in a spray can) would give it a nice shine, protect the legos, and make cleaning easier (no grit / dirt in the grooves).

You're right the top of the case couldn't be supported by bricks underneath(the nes MoBo is in the way) so I just really over did it with overlapping plates. You can't really tell in the pictures but I did preserve the air vents from the original NES. This however has made that section very weak but I'm still able to pick it up and carry it around with out worrying about it falling apart. I wouldn't want to drop it that's for sure! I didn't glue any of the bricks together, although if I were absolutely sure that I never wanted to dismantle it I could glue them together. I did however use some glue were the controller ports are. I could not find a way to make them fit and withstand the pressure from pushing/pulling the controllers in and out. So I had to to cut the original piece from the NES itself and then glue that piece to a couple of 1x4 plates. I doubt I would use a clear coat on any lego model. The sheen would add a non-original-lego look to it. The box shape really makes it pretty sturdy. Even the NES guts fit perfectly and can withstand the constant insertion and removal of the games without any movement. I was really shocked how perfectly this mod came together.

I'm really impressed by this. Nes and Lego are two of my favourite things. It makes perfect sense to join the two. Kudos!

that's insane. you really should do more consoles like this, i'd love to see a lego woodgrain atari 2600 (woodgrain replaced with brown is acceptable by my standards:P)

Dude, like 2 years ago I was gonna try doing this with my spare SNES, but unfortunately i messed up opening it and lost it...Nice to see someone pulled it off with the NES. Now that i got the right bit for the SNES and a better knowledge of the interior, i may pseudo-steal your idea...

I thought about doing the snes but it's going to be a bit tougher and the color scheme won't exactly match. SNES have that purplish-grey look whilst the nes is a standard grey. It'll still look cool as hell. If you do it take some pics and I'll post it on http://retronintendo.com (if you don't have some web space of your own that is)

Thanks Jeromy, tomorrow I might look inside and see what i can do. Issue is, SNES is gonna be a toughie, and I don't have enough legos to do the whole color scheme thing. I am pretty decent with building, I'm gonna have to try that with either SNES or maybe another possible console...
