When using a joystick with Turbo and/or Slow-Mo functionality, these functions come from the joystick and not the NES or the Emulator, right? (e.g., the joystick either sends rapid keypresses for 'Turbo' or rapidly toggles the 'start' button for 'Slow-Mo', right?)
I'm asking because I haven't seen Turbo or Slow-Mo support in any of the emulators (FCE Ultra, etc.), so I'm assuming this has to do with the joystick itself.
Specifically, I'm planning on picking up the Retrozone USB-modded NES Advantage, and expect the Turbo and Slow-Mo functions to work in conjunction with FCE Ultra. Is this reasonable?

I would think that's reasonable to expect, I know that's the case with a parallel modded NES pad, I'm not sure about the USB adapted model. In short, yes, it is a circuit on the pad, not the NES hardware that does it, so it should remain functional.

When setting up your configuration you could try setting the slow button to the START function
