That's an interesting question. I'm not sure if it actually makes me appreciate the games any less, but I do notice a difference in playing habits for certain games. For instance, if I get stuck on a game or find it difficult, I have noticed that I'm more apt to turn it off and throw another game in. Not that I just won't play my more difficult games, because actually, I always love a challenging game. It's just that sometimes when frustration sets in, it's much easier to put in something like Ninja GaiDen or SMB 2 to give myself a boost of confidence after beating them.

This probably would attribute to having more games than I ever thought I would. I remember when video stores rented NES games. I was getting a new game every other day, or every day, depending on how quickly I beat the game I rented. It seems I had more dedication to each game I ran through back then.

Definitely yes. When I first got my NES I would only get a new game about once every four months which meant the ones I did have got played to death. When you only have a few games it's natural that those are going to be played over and over again. When your collection hits 100+ games there's less inclination to return to a game that you don't click with straight away. There's always another game on the shelf to play. I don't think it's any coincidence that when you ask someone what their all time favourite games are alot of them will be the first few games they ever played.

I don't have so many games yet, but I'm tending to say yes.
When you have too much, you can't play them all the time.
When I was a kid, I had to save money for months in order to buy 1 game and it was my all and everything.
But now I go into Japanese used game stores and buy 10 games at a time for less than I have payed for one single game back then...
The feeling becomes a bit different when the collection grows.

That question reminds me a bit of an episode of the Simpsons with a spoiled kid, whose mom buys him a game.

Rich mom: Gavin, don’t you already have this game?
Spoiled boy: No, mom, you idiot. I have Bloodstorm and Bonesquad and Bloodstorm II, stupid.
Rich mom: Oh, I’m sorry honey. We’ll take a Bonestorm.
Spoiled boy: Get two. I’m not sharing with Caitlin.

Same here. I wanted to say something, but I didn't... but, I went back to my collection, and I was just comparing my NES collection, but then I went back, and compared my N64, and I saw many games I love, and yet, haven't played in a while. Such as Ocarina of Time. I love that game. My all time fav. :D :D :D . I had to go back, and play it again. (brought back so many memories!) I see that you really do sometimes forget about some games.

What I'm asking is exactly what it says. As a collection grows, you play other games less. I've personally noticed new games, even classics like Kid Niki and Skate or Die, are overlooked in favor of one of my old favorites. It's a matter of how our outlook of the games and the system changes after there's no longer the issue of saving up for a game. At $3.33 a pop for me, games have gone from a precious singularity to something more viewed as a whole. I was wondering if this was something that happened to others.

I also, protect my games. I have my NES, SNES, and Sega Genisis games in a container with plastic bags around them, so they don't get dirt inside the games.

collecting has made me disinterested in playing alot of games. if it slightly bores me or is graphicly crappy for its time, it gets 3 seconds or never played. but as a kid man every games was a good game becuase there werent as many and any new game was a good game for nes. the same cant be said for games after. ps1 has probably the worst run of games for a system period. yeah yeah i know final fantasy and resident evil are both great franchises. but outside of those what games will really hold the test of time for ps1? i still play my atari though and enjoy that far more than most ps1 games :P

Yes I'm pretty sure about that. Can't say we ever had a real stinker game back in the NES days. We got the following games during the hey-days: SMB/Duck Hunt, SMB2,SMB3,Faxanadu,Battle of Olympus,Rad Gravity,Rad Racer,Section Z,Burai Fighter,Low G Man,Gauntlet II,Prince of Persia,Star Tropics,Captain Skyhawk, Solstice,Batman,Mega Man 4,Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!,Metroid,Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles,Castlevania III,Crackout,Gremlins 2,Kabuki-Quantum Fighter and Shadow Warriors.

I like them all, and the only I don't own now is Crackout (my brother's game).

Then there were also the games you traded for a period with friends and family. And I also like all those games too.
