That's a good tip on that link about letting the timer run down if you're faced with a backward warp. I never thought of that before. Those always annoyed me so much.

Famicom stuff is extremely rare where I live as well. I have to buy most of it, if not all of it, online.

I'm pretty sure you can play the FDS ROMS through a regular emulator.
I just picked up the game at a local store and just managed to make through the first level before I lost all my lives. There's poison mushrooms in the game that make you smaller!

i played this game just today, i have never played it before. i went to this store to play it. personally i didn't find the game to be as hard as i had expected. i thought it would be almost exact gameplay as smb1, i dont like the fact that you go so high when you hit an enemy, also when you hit a block when you are big and running, you stop moving and go upwards while you break the block, instead of hitting the block and still running. i still liked playing it, it was a little bit of a challange...

I seem to remember they never released it outside of Japan because of the difficulty level. It is much more difficult but it ain't so bad once you get going. There are levels toward the end where you have to use Luigi otherwise you can't do it. That's what I can remember.

i have seen aspeedrun of someone beating the game with mario only, so it must be possible. i played it on super mario all-stars if you were wondering. i still didn't find it that hard, it may actually be easier, considering the fact you can jump so high off enemies without any problem. there are some parts about it that are difficult though.

Well it's certainly possible that Mario's all that's needed. My personal experience dictated that Luigi was required on a couple of occasions but mine isn't the official statement. If I could be bothered I'd try to play it through again but I really can't be bothered. I personally didn't find the game as enjoyable.
Do you know of any links to some speedruns of this game? I'd be most interesting in seeing them.

if you haven't already, you need to download DIVX codec i am pretty sure, just if you dont have it already.
if you watch the video, i am planning on competing on it, so my video could possibly get up there in a few months! :)

It's quite amazing that anyone could learn that game so thoroughly that they can bolt through, barely putting a foot wrong. I remember when I finished that game I'd be inching forward bit by bit, taking my time. Be sure to inform us the minute you beat that time.

if i can anyways, i am WAY to used to smb1, so when the pirahna plant is almost completely down, i run into it, and i guess it doesn't work in the all-stars version. also jumping over piranha plants has been a problem. i will inform you guys if they ever put up a video of that.
ps: i sent one of the super mario bros 1 full completion, and i am hoping they put it online. i hope it didn't get lost in the mail or something though. SDA hasn't gotten back to me about the tape, so i dont know what is happening with it. if it was lost, then i guess i will just have to make a better faster video of it.
