I got tired of not being able to get my hands on a Top Loader.

So I took that stupid concept of a "Back Loader" that some people did, and actually put a slight bit of thought in to it.

Note the (WIP) in the title, this project is still a work in progress, but it's going well so far.

I plan to eliminate the power supply/AV/RF box in there, and come up with some sort of new case for the beast.

I'm also going to cover the solder connections in hot glue, to prefent them from breaking.

At this point, the board flexes quite a bit when inserting or removing a cart, so some support is needed beneath the connector.

The only down side to this is that the cart goes in facing the back. :(

Try cramming it in an old VCR case. See if you can even manage to squeeze both in there. If you don't feel like doing that, you can always try fitting the system in a famiclone case. Put a 60-pin converter in the case for a true Famicom. Painting it to look like a real Famicom and hardwiring the controllers would pretty much make it as close to a real one as you could get.

Why that would make it a homemade true FAMICLONE!! That would be sweet. By the way did this NES have any problems with it or was it working to begin with??

it was working, but hasn't been powered up in a few months, and I've done a few things to it since then, I hope it still works :P

UPDATE: The console still works, and so does the new connector. I'll try to get some photos of it in action tonight, when Roll gets home with the camera.

I was also thinking about the label facing backward... it's just more like an Atari this way ;)

Speaking of which, you could probably get it to fit in an old atari case. I'd recommend a 7800, since the area around the cartridge doesn't have many distinctive differences, so if you cut the case, it'd look much more "natural" than if you tried to put one in something like a 6-switch 2600.

I need friends.... I had to nix Tom. He wasn't really my friend. His smile "mocked" me.

Nice Job!! :D . Now just go and reverse all the labels of your NES games and no one will think anything is different.
