After the fourth time you play it when the balloons are red if you get a perfect you get 14,000 + a 30,000 bonus = 44,000. So it really isn't that hard to get your score higher and higher.

 523,150I missed getting a "perfect" on at least 3 bonus stages, otherwise I would have gotton an extra 80,000-90,000 points. Poo is right. It's all about the "bonuses". Now the rest of you need to get with it. K.

K. Some of us suck at it... ok, I suck at it. ;D RockNES doesn't seem to emulate Balloon Fight, sadly, and I don't have a cart of it. Anyone know any emulators that are better than RockNES for mac OSX?

I'm not too sure OSG, as I've never used a Mac. On this page there is an emulator called Ines that you may want to try. I'm not really sure how good of an emu it is though.

A99990 I thought maybe the max score was "655,350" (like in 'Contra') because "65535" is the highest 5 digit number in hex code (or something) - plus the unchanging "0". But alas... I surpassed that!  [size=18] 704,400[/size] I recorded about the last 8 minutes of that performance for anyone who wants to see. Balloon Fight challenge WMV (8.5 MB) The "lightning bolt thingies" become hard to dodge after a while.

Looks like ZEN got this challenge. I think this makes him the first to retain the title for more than a week. Congratulations! There may or may not be a challenge posted for this week, I've been forgetful :(
