Famitsu Magazine in Japan is claiming that Sony is ready to prepare up to 75 Blu-ray movies for the PS3 launch in Japan. Each Blu-ray movie title will retail at 7,500 Yen which equates to around £34. No details on which films will be avaliable. I don't understand why Sony is charging so much per movie..

Because Blu-Ray isn't ready for the mainstream market yet. it's still being aimed at the rich people with massive HDTVs, and the money to buy a $1300 player.

And like most of the other big formats Sony has tried to shove out over the years, I don't see this one ever catching on any better than they did, so those people are wasting their money on the betamax of our decade. Especially since HD-DVD:

- can be made in a modified DVD manufacturing plant, resulting in cheaper discs.
- can have DVD and HD-DVD stamped on both sides of the disc for compatibility with pre-existing hardware to help with the transition.
- still has "DVD" in the title, which everyone is accustomed to calling their movies these days.

It's just sad how places like Best Buy promote blu-ray like it's better, not really even giving customers a chance to see it compared to HD-DVD, just because Sony is squirming deals out of places to sell the stuff.

Also, just about every comparison declares that HD DVD has better picture and sound.

You need to know that normal DVDs cost between 4800 and 6800 Yen in Japan when they first come out. Anime DVD sometimes cost even more, so 7500 Yen isn't really that expensive for Japan. :? Japanese DVD prices are crazy sometimes.
Only in the last months prices have been reduced a bit. You can get older films for 1500 en now if they have a sale or something.
