Hi,
I have a famiclone (Neo Fami)that uses a 9-pin controller port which looks like the sega genesis controller port. As I know it, the "super joy III" uses the same type of port because the gun from that works with the system.

What I am interested in doing is making it so that I can use one of my NES controllers with the neo fami. I would love to think that it would be as simple as cutting each cord from each (an NES, and the clone controlelrs) and reconnecting the proper wires. The NES controllers are 7 pin. That is the first thing to address I think.

Could I take an old sega genesis controller and use the port of that cord?
or what if I plugged a genesis controller in the system? (i would have but I dont have any of those controllers) ( and the genesis datasheets make it seem like their controllers are fairly complicated. I woudl imagine that these clones are more simplistic than the actual genesis ports and controllers.

Do any places sell these 9-pin clone controllers stand alone?
Are there any pin-out datasheets (or whatever they may be called) diagramming the wires?
One of the links says that an adapter is on the way, but are there any out there already?

as long as it's a standard two button controller I would fully assume you could snip the wires and connect an NES controller to that connector. you can use almost any controller on any console with limited mess. of course a pinout diagram would make that a lot easier.

Well, it is not a standard two button controller.. I absent mindedly left that bit out. The 9pin controller has a dpad, select, start, a, b, turbo a, and turbo B buttons.

I think investigation would be the best...but I don't have extra controllers, if anybody knows hwere I can find solo controllers that would be really helpful.

I am now pretty sure that any 9pin famicom controller will work,and I am pretty sure it will be fairly simple to get my NES controller going on it.

It wasn't that big of a deal. I used a controller extension cord for sega genesis and a spare Nintendo brand controller. I just cut,stripped,tied, and taped. It works like a charm.

The neo fami only used 5 of nine pins so that trivialized the project. Just had to figure out which wire to which pin on the connector. It wasn't that difficult, just had to keep my head straight between mixing and matching colors.
I am thinking about doing a third party turbo controller, I have one more sega extension cord that I bought for this little project.
