If you like the Metal Gear games for all the systems, I recommend this site for updates and general merriment. :D http://www.thesnakesoup.com/It covers all aspects of the Metal Gear series. They even sent a petition to Konami to have Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake released in North America! What do you think of this link?

I would sure hope to get the chance to play this one on a recent console. I tried playing through the English translated ROM with DreamMSX (an MSX emulator for Dreamcast) and the game totally screwed up at- guess where?- the part where -SPOILER!- Metal Gear walks on to the screen for what I thought was the final battle. Urrggghh! There's also no way to save it with that emulator, so the game seemed quite long (but is definitely worth playing). I can't imagine how history would have been changed had the NES gotten this gem (instead of Snake's Revenge).

I just checked out that site. There's a lot of interesting content there, but the articles are so profanity riddled that they look like they were typed by a toothless uber thug with a third-grade education. Hm i really never understood why alot of people didnt like snakes revenge. I thought it was pretty good..i am HORRIBLE at the first metal gear though..i can hardly get anywhere in that game heh.

Well, I'll tell you the reason why it's so despised. I'm sure others will agree. Snake's Revenge was overall a decent game, yes. I actually used to like the game a lot until I found out about the REAL Metal Gear 2 that was never released over here. Supposedly, Hideo Kojima was working on the second Metal Gear, but didn't have it done. Well, the Konami unit over here wanted to follow up on Metal Gear one more quickly. Metal Gear came out in 1988. Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake came out in Japan on the MSX in 1990. That's the same year that Snake's Revenge came out. Now we all know that it takes about a year for a game to get from Japan to the States, and I think even a bit longer to get to Europe. Correct me if I'm wrong, Daynum. Anyway, instead of waiting an extra year, the game Snake's Revenge was written and developed by people other than Hideo Kojima. They released it the same year, ya know? Why couldn't they wait to let Hideo do his magic. Granted, they had no clue how good the guy would pan out to be, but still. In Japan, they got cool stuff like fighting a moving Metal Gear, a boss that you fist fight, a Big Boss that isn't some cheesy cyborg; they also got to hide under tanks, had parts that created sound when you walked all over the game, a nine screen wide radar that was on screen, good transceiver moments, vent shafts... man, I could go on forever. When you compare Snake's Revenge to that, it's SO disappointing! You're in an orange outfit, the Metal Gear you fight is stationary (though it was neat how they made that battle), and the bosses were... so so. The Hideo take on the second in the series is outstanding, and we didn't get to experience this because of money. Wanting to push the Metal Gear series in America too fast. I wish they would've waited a year on it. It would've been so awesome. All I have to say is thank heavens for MSX emulators and the team that translated the second Metal Gear. I now feel so much better about the series as a whole. Every-now-and-then, I throw in Snake's Revenge, but can never bring myself to play it for too long. After playing the MSX version, I know which one I'd rather be playing.

Very intresting. Is Metal Gear 2 solid snake as hard as the first? Cause if it is ..i dunno if i want to try it heh. Im horrible at it. But could you link me to the translated version?

Ive always wanted to get far in the OG metal gear because ive finished MGS so many times. I want to see Grey FOX and big boss but im so horrible at the game that i cant even get passed the first couple areas:(. O well still a good game though heh.

Does anyone ever wonder why in Metal gear, Snake is sent into this huge, dangerous mission with only a pack of cigarettes?
