so... where do you get parts to mod your NES? I wanna mod mine but I looked on ebay and they came back w/ nothin'.

Do it yourself?
I don't think there are mod kits for an NES. You'll have to make your own stuff. Or use stuff intended for PC use and apply it to your NES.

Personal mods are much cooler (more individual) than mods you do with kits.
If you do a cool mod, post a photo. :)

I just want the top cut out, not the whole top but a good sized hole that is sqaure. put some strong clear plastic or clear fiber glass in its place and have blue neon lights comeing out of it. and where the system is dark grey and black, paint it neon blue. whatcha think? sounds cool if I can do it.

kinda. I want the clear part to be a bit bigger. that and Im gunna paint mine. what kind of paint should I use? I was thinkin' spray paint.

I wouldnt use spray paint b/c it'll be harder to make the paint job look even. I heard of some paint used on a dreamcast ill get back to you if i find it.

There is that paint model constructors use to paint their ship or airplane models. (I hope you understand what I mean... :oops: ) How about that?

I'm just curious, how did you plan to power the LEDs for the lights? (I assume you'll be using LEDs)

lol thats just it. I have no idea. I havent even opened one of my systems yet to even try and find out. I havent had anytime. so right now its just an idea.

Powering the LED's is the easy bit. Grab some kind of cheap digital multimeter (I got one from Maplin in the UK for £5) and check the last pin of the major IC's (chips), the last pin is usually VCC (the power pin). The majority of them should be running at 5 volts. If memory serves, use a 220 ohm resistor on the power wire of the led and that should cut the power down to 3.3 volts. That should run the LED fine. There is a 5 volt regulator inside that you can take power from but there are loads of places inside the NES that you can steal power from :)

http://digi-key.com/ I purchase some of the electrical mod parts from there if I cannot find them locally at the Radio Shack or similar. You have to know a bit about what you need, but it's not too dificult.

Radio Shack has LEDs and other misc electronic parts, Curcuit City sells the 2 inch neon tubes that can be adapted for straight wire to the PSU. Lowe's sells Spray paint Plastic Enamel (Which is what I use for my mods) also they sell plexiglass in 2 foot squares for like 2 bucks. You'll need a dremel to cut through the plastic and a soldering iron (45 W) to solder connections. Hope that helped.

Meh... 15-25 W? You'd be there all day! Well I'll agree with you that you would want to start off with a 15-25W and once you get decent at soldering upgrade to 45. I use a 45w cause that's what I was taught with.

On the subject of mod parts, I thought everyone might be interested in this: http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=search&item=ISW-4&type=storeIt's the original (I suppose) NES on / off / reset light assembly, get 5 for $1.00 I don't know what it might be used for (unless you broke yours), but hey, it's a good deal, someone might have some ideas.
