Well, if it works, then yes.

Well, you can clean it easily. If the guy/girl that wokred there doesn't know much about opening a NES, then I say do it yourself. I just opened my broken NES, and put a 72 pin in that I bent the pins on, and the NES works great. So, I'm sure you can get it working.

Just getting a working NES is hard enough these days, that seems reasonable to me

Thats too bad, i got my first nes with 7 games for 15 CAD, and my second with SMB for 5 CAD. I had to buy a new pin for the 5 dollar one though, so its more like 15 CAD.

i got my nes for AU$16 (aud isnt too far off cad iirc), it came with two controllers, but only one worked, the other controller and the console looked and smelled as if someone had gotten overly drunk off their head then puked over the whole lot. the outside of them was clean, but the inside of the controller was full of smelly brown sticky stuff, and what ever it was had had enough alcohol in it to melt the controller cable in one place. the console smelled a bit that way, but lacked the brown for the majority. anyway, one controller was clean, and after cleaning everything and bending the pins in the 72 pin connector i got it going ok. so one nes plus cables, and one controller was about $16. unless your nes is in ultra good condition, i'd pass and look for another.

It's a rip off IMO. 10-25 depending on condition. IMO I think you should find a "broken" one (one that is fiddly to load games with) and repair/replace the 72 pin connector. 10-15 bucks plus whatever it costs for the "broken" NES.

The best place to find an NES is thrift stores. I found an NES action set in great condition for $10 US

A good way to find out would be to GO there and check. Most pawn shops do have those things, cause they are the only place to get cash for your games.

$40, far too much. I have bought 35+ nes systems and the only one that cost more than $40 was my toploader. all my toasters were under $20, and most of those under $5 :D
