Has anybody played the newest installment in the Metal Gear series? I've heard it's supposed to be superior to the other MGS games, and was wondering if anyone could give me some input.

I briefly played a demo, it's very different from the previous two MGS games. having jungle animals as foes in addition to soldiers certainly adds a whole new level to game play, and the camo is very interesting.

I've finally starte on this game... it's difficult! You HAVE to sneak. If you try and run through just shooting, you're done.

I prefer sneaking anyway, but the enemies hear almost everything you do. You have to be SUPER careful about how you do things. The camoflauge thing is definitely a plus.

Overall, I think it's a really cool game. Just pretty hard.

dwellerofrhymes is right. It is the best Metal Gear game since the NES. Which means it is my new favorite game ever, seeing how the my old favorite was Metal Gear Solid on PSX.

I was worried that the camo and eating would take too much out of the game, and really ruin the experience. It surely didn't, and I felt it was a nice touch. The only new thing that is kinda ungood is the wound healing which as an idea is cool, but after getting one of each type of injury it's more mundane and annoying to go through the menus to do it.

My other complaint has to be with the shortness. I didn't want it to end. But the story was great, and I played through it twice more. Absolutely stellar. A must have for anyone who likes the series or has a PS2.

Well, I've played more of the game, and now I'm at a part where you come out of the cave. The two battles with Ocelot and The Pain where awesome! I've finally got a good hold on capturing enemies and making them talk and what-have-you...

This game gets more and more fun as it progresses! I can't wait until the end of it!!! Very anxious!

Sat down last night at beat the game! I went all the way from the part where you come out of the cave, and beat it! I was up all night, and never once felt tired. Great game... no... AWESOME! I didn't even realize what was going on with the character! I knew it was a prequel, but this was the best route the MGS series could've taken!

Like, the last four hours is a HUGE boss fight kinda! Man, this is one of my favorite games ever!

Congratulations on your "beating" (of the game that is).

How does 'Metal Gear Solid 3' stack up against the rest of the series?

It seems that a lot of people thought it was very good, but it kind of overshadowed by 'San Andreas' and 'Halo 2' for greatness.

It's like Dweller and Uglyjack said... best in the series. It lays the foot work for the other two, and leaves room for more!

You can do cool new stuff with the hand-to-hand combat, and you can even peek through doors in first-person now. I've grown used to the sneaking. I realized what I was doing wrong. Use the D-pad to walk or crawl with no noise. I didn't realize that! I was doing everything the hard way! D*mn!

Anyway, about how it gets overshadowed by the other two games, sure. To me though, the main thing is that I enjoyed it. I haven't played the others, but I doubt they compare to this! To quote Smash T.V., "IIIIII LOVE IT!!!"

this doesn't look good, and backs up the statement that it was overshadowed by GTA and Halo...

Yeah, I actually just read about that last night. I'm hoping they release it over here. I have no clue why is hasn't done so well. Everyone who I've talked to that has played it says they love the game. I guess the majority of the people didn't purchase it, so it makes it a failure in Hideo's eyes.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

This guy/gal is using a Czech keyboard or something. My computer can't read it, and I can't find a download to make the characters make sense. If anyone has characters on the screen that make any sense, could you run it through a translator and tell us what it says? The link goes to some business... Thanks.

I guess he didn't like 'Snake Eater'.

This game has quite the learning curve. You get the hang of it as you go along, at least thats how it was for me. I beat the Fear without using thermal goggles or anything else that would have helped me...took al while to do. It also gets better as you go along. The confrontation with the Sorrow was cool, really blew my mind.

You have to look at the letters/words that aren't there.
