Most of you have probably heard about the CD-i Phillips Zelda games. For those that haven't it was basically down to Phillips being given the temorary use of the Zelda franchise as compensation after Nintendo cancelled an agreement with Philips over a SNES add on. As a result 3 Zeldas were made for the CD-i: The faces of evil, The wand of gamelon and Zelda's adventure. Apparently these games were, to put it bluntly, crap. My question is have any of you played these games? What makes them so bad? Is it worthwhile for a really big zelda fan to track these down or would it just make them cry?

I read a little about them and saw screen captures, they used live actors for the cutscenes. From the review I read, they were terrible actors. As I recall, the audio and graphics weren't anything spectacular either. perhaps I'd track them down if I were the most hardcore Zelda fan if for nothing else than bragging rights, but for playability I don't think I'd bother...

I would love to play them, yes people say they are crap but have never played a CD-i so any game on CD-i I would like to play, in Australia I have not even seen one for sale, games or the system.

I'd like to see how true they are to the game itself. Play control, music, etc. I've found that sometimes you can't trust people's opinions. Some people are in the mind set that if a rival system is sporting a game, it's not good. Usually, if everyone says it's awful, it's true... sometimes, however...

Yeah, that's true. It worked for Resident Evil only because it made it more like a B-Movie. Live acting Zelda? Hmmm.... they should've rethought that!

'Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon' is almost always mentioned in "worst video game ever made" lists, and usually listed second only to good 'ol 'E.T.'

From my understanding, it wasn't a traditional Zelda style adventure game, it just borrowed the characters.
As for the game's visuals... well...

The Link from 'Windwaker' isn't looking so bad now.

yeah, as I understand it they weren't really Zelda games at all, but phillips had the right to use the license from the failed deal with Nintendo, so they slapped it on those games in hopes of drawing sales.

Is it just me, or does it look like the Link from that picture should be standing next to Johan from the Smurfs?

Why, why, why just why did they give away Link for such ... crap? (Sorry, had no better word)
Did they need the money that bad?
Couldn't the producers hire a better artist??

the CD-I is a console produced by phillips from the remnants of a failed deal with Nintendo, which is why they were allowed to use the Zelda license. they aren't really Zelda games in the sense that none of the Nintendo developers were involved at all.

Here are some more screenshots from the CD-i Zelda games, for those who haven't found them yet. The gaming itself doesn't look too bad. You be the judge:

Faces of Evil

Wand of Gamelon

Zelda's Adventure (these look a little tacky)

I have played it a couple of times, it's kinda funny you can play with link or zelda, both have a different quest and the graphix are sorta cartoonish.
Has been some while since i played it but it's a nice game, only the CD-I flopped so not many people own one no more.

My NES collection so far...

And the Playstation is a console produced by Sony from the remnants of a failed deal with Nintendo... :
Good luck, that Philips wasn't successful.

How would you rate the games, let's say in a scale from 1 to 100?
Looking at the screens I just can't imagine, they're good...

My Link (2010) looks better! And he looks like he jumped into a Mega Man costume and he tied a Green bandana to his head!

If I were a forum mod... Earth as we know it would simply cease to exist.
