I want to buy a Playstation and put a mod chip in it so I can play any region games and burned ones. Are there any brand of chips that are better than others or is a chip a chip. Also what is the reliability because all of them claim to run any game perfectly. Thanx

I heard you can an external one through the parallel or serial i/o. I've heard of mod chips messing systems up before, though, so I'd use a boot CD instead.

In my opinion (you don't have to listen to me :P) No, a mod chip is not a good idea. It can cause a lot of problems with your playstation, although it is handy to just download and burn games. Visit my Blog - Updated Nov 27th 2005

Well, I had friends back in the day with a modded Playstation, and it had a lot of over heating problems, and sometimes it wouldn't read stuff... but the person who modded it wasn't the brightest, so maybe it could be good. Visit my Blog - Updated Nov 27th 2005

The lesson here is: Be careful when installing it, or look for a SCPH-7501 or older model Playstation, and get a mod chip that just plugs into the "parallel I/O" port on the back Also, Always place the console on a hard, solid surface, so that the vents in the bottom can do their job.

I never heard of an external mod-chip. Ill have to look into that. And thanks for the advice. I only heard of putting it upside down when a disk wouldnt read. Ill be sure to put it on a hard surface.

We used a baking rack suspended from the bottom of a shelf for my brother's PS1. With 16 inches or so of open air below the system, it never overheated. I think he left Sim City in there playing over an entire weekend once to rack up some cash.

It's a good idea if you know what your doing; REALLY BAD if you don't. I personally (even if I had extensive instructions in front of me) wouldn't do it because if I f'd up I'd be so pissed that I killed my game console. http://www.myspace.com/jennikisaI need friends.... I had to nix Tom. He wasn't really my friend. His smile "mocked" me.

Hmmm....i've heard mixed stories on this. I, personally, would try it, but only if I could get a PS cheap, so if I didn't work it wouldn't matter.
