Well, after all the hype about the Generation NEX, it appears that the NES/Famiclone doesn't quite live up to it's expectations. The best aspect of this (from what I understand) is the way it looks, which is very impressive, for sure. There are some places you can read about the short-comings of the clone on Digit Press and NesDev if you want to find out more... I don't have the links readily available.

One of the biggest disappointments of the NEX is that they didn't make sure that Castlevania III worked... it doesn't. There have been numerous reports of that game not working, along with Rad Racer, and also some of the more popular Camerica games. I don't know from experience, but I guess CV III doesn't work on most Famiclones. This sounds like one of the biggest letdowns that the NEX presents from what I've read. There are tons of compatibility issues apparently.

The worst part about all of this is the fact that Messiah was looked at in high regards, and when they were releasing this, they neglected to give any output as to how things were going, and what was going to work with it/wasn't going to work with it. Supposedly this company is only three people, so it's understandable that they couldn't get ALL the info to everyone... but most should've seen it coming if you ask me. The FAQ page that they had up was EXTREMELY limited in info. Everything was being "looked into."

Anyway, I haven't played on one, and was wondering if anyone here has played one. If not, what are your thoughts on the whole ordeal?

Well I can't comment from a personal experience as I haven't played one and probably never will, seeming as I'm not buying one and don't know anyone who is either. The way I feel about the NEX is that it's more of an accessory than a NES replacement. It's something to play around with and have a bit of fun with. It shouldn't be looked at as a replacement because of the compatibility issues that have plagued all clones. If someone didn't have a NES and was looking to get one they would definitely be better off with an original (because then they could play Micro Machines 8) ).

i think all the hype is from how it looks. it's too gimmicky. if it didn't have the "NES paint job" i don't think it would of caught on as much.

one thing i never liked about it is the price. why the hell would you buy a FAKE NES for $60 when you can buy a REAL one for $5 and spend $55 on getting some games? i don't think i'll ever understand that
