i'm trying to determine the name of a war game.
here's what i can recall: - you play a soldier - top-down perspective - you can run, but can also go prone and shoot while on your belly - toss grenades - perhaps published by SNK? - NOT Contra, Ikari Warrior, or guerilla war
any ideas?

I'm not sure of the game, but you could try looking here to see if anything reminds you of it: http://www.vgmuseum.com/nes2.htmit's not complete, but it does have a large selection of titles screens and images from games.

Checking out over 900 games :?: Seems funny. You wrote that you think it's from SNK. Try this list in combination with Luke's link. NES games from SNK are listed there. http://my.execpc.com/~krieg/links/nes.cartsGood luck.

Sounds like Commando. It's a top-down view and you can throw grenades. It's from Capcom.

If none of the above is the game you're looking for, here's a link to the top down perspective games released on the NES. The list of games is in the text box on the right. http://nes.mobygames.com/browse/games/l,13/c,1/?o=2a14Hope you find what you're looking for! http://robertlbryant.com

You can search by company, by year of release, by genre, by perpective.... It's a really well put together site. Just something I stumbled on when I was first making playlists of NES games for Media Player. Before I made my own screenshots I would go there and collect them for the thumbnail view in the My Music folder. I like the site alot :D http://robertlbryant.com

Roth is the human search engine. "YogurtBoy" wrote:i'm trying to determine the name of a war game.

any ideas? The whole "going prone on your belly" thing is baffling me. I don't think I've ever seen that on a top-down perspective game (except Metal Gear 2 on the MSX2). Commando and Heavy Barrel are the only two I can think of with grenade tossing (but no prone positioning). http://www.playthenes.com

[quote:5e9f53ff53="Z.E.N"]The whole "going prone on your belly" thing is baffling me.[/quote] That's what's throwing me off as well. I can't think of any NES games that have that feature. In Snake's Revenge you can go prone, but that's only on the generic side view perspective of the game... I fear we may have a case of mistaken system identity... http://robertlbryant.com

I just did some research and came up with a game called 'Cabal'. It's not entirely top-down perspective, but close enough. http://screenmania.retrogames.com/nes/01/nes_0022.htmlYou can also kneel down (don't know about lay down) and toss grenades. It was manufactured by a company called Fabtek. And that's the closest I can get to finding a game that matches your description. http://www.playthenes.com
