I've always wondered why my World Cup Soccer game says it supports 4 player VS. mode but have never understood how when there are only two controller plugs on the NES console. where there splitters made for the NES similar to what PS2 has, and if so where could I get a couple?

Yeah, several other games also supported 4 player. Super spike 'V ball for example. You have to buy yourself a Fourscore, or a NES Satelliate
