Haven't been to the forums for a couple days because my Cube is really getting a workout. Everybody must get this game. It's just totally unreal, but I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. Anybody else picked it up yet?

For those of you who haven't seen what RE 4 looks like, here are some terrific screenshots: http://www.gamespot.com/gamecube/adventure/residentevil4/screenindex.htmlI believe you are Leon in this game (though I could be mistaken), and it looks superb! http://robertlbryant.com

Anybody else picked it up yet? So when can we expect a full review? :) I haven't been a large fan of the RE series, I don't really like the way you move the character, with the whole turn and then go forward thing... has this been changed? The graphics I've seen for the game look amazing, but those could have just been cutscenes. Are the in game graphics anything like what we've seen on the commercials and stuff?

None of the game is prerendered. All cinemas and cutscenes use the game engine. The gameplay, including control and camera angles, have been completely rehauled. If you didn't like the old RE's, you're in for a surprise. If you're a fan, you're in for a surprise. Personally, survival horror is my favorite genre, and I've always loved the RE series. This game is seriously just too incredible.

How many people got it already? How is it playing? Is it very hard? (Can also total shooter-beginners like me get into the game?)

Of course, I don't know how you define shooter. The classic RE series is a third-person adventure (specifically, survival horror) with prerendered backgrounds. This game is fully polygonal with a unique over-the-shoulder third-person camera. My friend who doesn't play many third-person games had some trouble getting used to aiming, but he made it pretty far. If you're new to the genre, expect to die a lot, but the learning curve is very forgiving. The first time I went through the game, it took me 21 hours, so expect to put some time into this game. I'm on my fourth time through the game now. One of the absolute BEST titles this gen, and easily one of my favorite games of all time.

Sorry, but for me it's kind of a shooter. You have to shoot lots of zombies, right?
21hours is quite long... is it because it is difficult? How many times did you die? (Did you?) :?:

There's a special edition Resident Evil 4 Gamecube that's being released in Europe: http://www.gamingheadlines.co.uk/view.asp?id=810&p=gcn&d=nintendoIt comes with a bonus disk and other goodies. Looks like Nintendo are trying to get the Resident Evil fans hooked on buying a Gamecube. I already have a Cube though so won't work on me :P .

21hours is quite long... is it because it is difficult? How many times did you die? (Did you?) ?: The game keeps track of how many times you've died. My first time through, it was just under 60 deaths. My second time through, I got it down to about 8 deaths I think. It's challenging, but not difficult. If you're decent at modern games, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to jump right in. OH, and there are no zombies in this RE. There are zombie-LIKE creatures, but no zombies. Technically.

60 deaths?? Somehow cool. 8) Then maybe I could do it, too. Perhaps with a 100 deaths or so. But as it seems to allow unlimited deaths... I really might get it.
That thing with the bonus disc and controller seems interesting. When I remember right, this bonus disc was included in the Japanese version, too. (At least in the first impression)

So I wanted to buy a new system. I went to Wal-Mart, and see Metal Gear Solid 3. Mine!! I've been dying to play it anyway, and I figured buying it will force me to get a PS2 so I can play it. Problem is, PS2 is sold out all over town!!! Man, was I ticked. So we go out of town to a few places, and they are all sold out of PS2s!!! Now I'm getting even more angry because I really want to play this game. At this point, I need to get SOMETHING! My desire to play a newer game had increased. What do I see sitting there?.... A single GameCube...! I snatched it up, and immediately ZombieHunterX's review of RE4 sprung to my head! Went and grabbed that and.... THIS GAME IS AWESOME!!! I love the way the villagers walk towards you in this menacing kind of way. Also, I know very little Spanish, so them speaking adds to it being even more eerie! I actually got to some boss called El Gigante on my first sit down, and geez!!! They know how to make a boss fight! Also, look for an innovative aquatic fight! Man, I can't wait to play more of this game! My copy of MSG3 will have to wait, it seems! http://robertlbryant.com

The zombies speak Spanish?? :D  Funny.
Why don't you try to grab a used PS2? Buying a new one is too expensive and bad for Nintendo. :x

I'm satisfied with the GC right now, though :) http://robertlbryant.com

Ok ok they're not Zombies, but they DO look like zombies and they speak spanish... Were there programmers or game designers at Capcom that didn't like the Spanish?
RE4 comes out in March here in Germany. So I still have the time to think about buying or not.

Good news for European players! :D
RE4 gets an "easy mode" in the European version. :P
If that is so even I might get it. I read that if you're a bad player who makes many mistakes, you'll find more ammo and medicine and vice versa. Interesting.
