I decided to try the NG NES series for my self starting off with the first one. The game is pretty hard, you have to do a lot of thinking on your feet right from the 2nd level, they bairly give you time to react. I got stuck at the 2nd boss with the green whip thing, I died once but then I had to start all the way from the mountain mid point

I did not like some of the placements of the enemys, they had enemys guarding my next location to jump to only so that I would get hurt, bounce off them, and fall off a cliff or hole  I think the game makers should have put more thought in organizing the game more

I know what you mean. LIke that bastard on the level where you jump pillars, he throws crosses at you and makes it very difficult to get across. But i think they did it for difficulty. Maybe.

They did.

The whole point is that the game is hard.

Ask Roth, he knows that if you do things right, you can run through the entire game. In fact, stopping is what gets you killed.

it was really easy becuase i always use save state to play.. the last level is way too long if you end up dying... u will have to start all the way from the beginning,, that means, from the boss. to, like 2 chaptor.

Any game is easy if you use save states. I could probably even finish ghosts 'n' goblins using save states (if I saved like every 2 seconds  ).

It use to be hard to me. But ive played the game since the late 80's so ive pretty much mastered it. I can go for at least 4 levels without dying.

Like NES-Luke said, it's A LOT easier if you just start running through it... don't worry so much about stopping except for at certain points in the game. When you do stop though, make sure it's not for very long. Never back-track either; Ninja GaiDen Syndrome will get you ;) It's not really that difficult of a game once you start playing it with a constantly-moving-forward pace. That game is a blast :)

I now see why I beat the game! I tried that whole taking my time deal, but when I'd get mad I'd just say f' it and start running like a madman. Does the same strat work for the 2nd one? If so I just might have to dig it out of the closet (I've never beaten that one). :D

I need friends.... I had to nix Tom. He wasn't really my friend. His smile "mocked" me.

Those are swords by the way

I am suprised that noone mentioned those demonic birds .

I picked this game up after seeing this topic and I had no trouble with stopping and getting all items and such. I got to the end of the third level (finally after a little battle with the birds) and my NES froze .

I am going to have to play it on my other NES later and see how far I can get :D.

damn birds....

Actually, they're "daggers".

'Ninja Gaiden' is very hard at first, but as it has been mentioned, play it fast and you'll find things much easier (or at least "less harder"). Don't think - just leap and swipe everything in your path. It will lead to much more successful results.

Having to restart from level 6-1 after losing in the final battles is annoying, but once you can actually pull it off in a single life, you really feel like a "pro" (which is probably why I don't feel like a "pro" yet).

Yeah, this one is difficult & I've never beaten it. I guess I'll have to try the "not stopping" strategy. I got to the end boss once, but that's as far as I ever got. I like the game, though.

So, i've been playing this game recently (or rather, the PAL equivalent) and it is really good. I don't think it's as hard as many people make it out to be (considering they didn't "tone" down its difficulty level for the PAL release) granted, it's more on the difficult side of the difficulty spectrum, but its done in a way that it's enjoyable rather than just fustrating. It is a bit at first, but if you stick with it becomes more fun. I did find the xbox ninja gaiden rather difficult however. In the"bad" way.

I've always enjoyed it. It's incredibly difficult, but at least you definitely get better at it the more you play. Hell, I've never gotten any better at Ghosts 'n Goblins, no matter how much I play.

I've finished it :P , but have you tried the Capcom Classics one with the arcade version? It's a lot more forgiving than the NES cart.

Don't have it, or the NES cart. I have to play it on emulator. But at least I don't have to use the keyboard anymore.
