When people ask about the best SNES games, all the popular names come up, like Final Fantasy, Donkey Kong Country, Chrono Trigger, etc. This thread is for pointing out the games that are great, but people don't know about them.
I'll start with Blackthorne. Take Prince of Persia, but give the guy a shotgun instead of a sword. This game was made by Blizzard, and the amount of detail given to the game was awesome. For instance, when you are climbing a ladder, the guy actually steps up on each rung of the ladder. When you hit the button to take out your gun, when you shoot backwards, he just holds the gun pointing behind him, without turning his head & fires (the guy just looks so badass). You can even walk up to prisoners that are chained up, chat with them, and then if you feel like it, smoke em with your gun. I was instantly hooked when I tried it on an emulator, and bought it immediately.
Next up is King Arthurs World. Similar to Lemmings, but far superior. The characters you control are archers, knights, shield men, engineers, barrel men, and more. If you feel like showering down arrows on the enemy, you send out a group of archers. If you wanted to cast a spell on the enemy, you send out a black wizard. If there is a wall blocking your way, you can either have your engineers make a battle ram to knock it open, or send a barrel man to blow it up. Your goal is to get King Arthur to the other side of the level, while overcoming obstacles and battling the enemy. There are boss stages as well, such as a big weird ogre looking dude that will eat your characters if they get too close. The only unfortunate part is that there are different 'worlds' in the game, and the best world is the one at the beginning, where it has medieval castles, and grassy hills. The other levels are fine, but when you get past the first one, you kinda miss it.
Last game to point out is Tetris And Dr. Mario. Now, these games are well known sure, but I don't think this combination game is well known. I do want to point out, that you don't need to bother with this one, if you are playing solo. But, if you have a friend that enjoys 1 or both of these games, you are in for a treat. You can play each game individually, but the combination game is where the most fun is found. You start with tetris. Clear X amount of lines, and move on to the dr. mario stage, where you have to clear X amount of viruses. Then, it's on to tetris where you score as many points as possible starting from scratch. I'm sure many of you know about the Nintendo World Championships back in 1990, and this game captures that same excitement. Another good thing-you can choose every option for the combination game, like how many lines you need to clear in the tetris game, how many viruses, and what level of speed you will start on with all of these games, and you even get to choose the time limit of the game. With a little tweaking, you can set up these options so that any beginner can challenge any expert.

Legend: A beat em up by sekia (wich was an underated company) where your a knight and you go around slashing up the baddies like in magic sword and what not. You can use magic like in golden axe as well. My only gripes about this game was that it was too slow and the levels were a little too long for me but other than that, solid.
Super Turrican: A great shooter game with alot of platforming in the mix with terrific music. I highly suggest you try this game out for it diserves its attention.

Great writre up, rizz. I'd say Alladin for SNES is a really good platformer. Though there is not much room for bullshit, because if you even tap the < or > arrows, alladin moves like 1 inch either way. But other than that, solid controls, and its made by capcom.

Yes, and i forgot to include Jungle Book. I have it for Genesis, and im pretty sure it got a SNES release. I beat it pretty quickly, in a couple hours, and its pretty fun. ALot of fun.

yeah Genesis Alladdin is way Better and toy Story was REally cool if i can remember Correctly, i had for Genesis complete haard Case.

Cool, lots of good games mentioned.
Legend - a nice game. I agree with your gripe about the game moving too slow. It's kind of like the letdown of Actraiser 2, where the guy takes a while to move one screen. Pity. If you really do like Legend, I recommend trying King of Dragons. I will be getting that one sometime next week. It has short levels, but many of them with lots of fun bosses. Plus, as you work your way through the game, your character gains levels.
Super Turrican - I was amazed when I tried that one out the first time. The graphics rocked for SNES. It was only a short play, but I might decide to get that one.
Aladdin - I'm not too much of a platformer guy, but I have to admit that it was fun playing some of that one. Just swinging on the poles that are sticking out is pretty entertaining.
I have tried out Lion King, Cool Spot and Toy Story. Both were all pretty good. For me, they weren't worth buying, but like I said, I'm not too much of a platformer guy.

King of Dragons! That was a fun brawler. It was interesting how they implemented the larger bosses, like the Hydra and the Dragon King.

I'm glad to see Alladin's getting some good comments. I used to play that game for hours on end when I was younger. I should still have it somewhere....hopefully.
I also liked a game called "unirally" which I think was a unicycle racing game. I can't recall if it got good reviews or not. (It was a while ago...)

Yes Unirally is an excellent game. I'll put forward Shadowrun. Hard to describe exactly, it contains action, adventure and RPG elements and is like no other game I've played on the SNES.

I'd describe that one as a cult favourite. I'm quite fond of Demon's Crest. It's certainly not 'popular'. It came out at the same time as Final Fantasy 3, Super Punch-Out!! and approximately the same time as Killer Instinct as well. So it really didn't get noticed.

I think that pretty much hits the nail on the head. Great game, interesting story. Another good one is Warlock. It had one of the coolest weapons in a game.

I have a feeling that Unirally is actually referring to Uniracers. That is, unless it had a different name in Europe or something. That one can be fun. The scrolling is super fast, and it always feels good to pull off an unbelievable stunt combo from a long jump.
I recently (just 2 days ago) finished Shadowrun. I'll try to summarize for people that aren't familiar with it. You control a character who has to piece together some recent events that put him in the morgue. You roam around in the slums, and try to gather information and items that will get you to new areas. Along the way, you can hire guys to fight along side you, since there are snipers everywhere, and you have to fight your way through corporate buildings. You also get to 'jack in' to the matrix at many points in the game, which is a computer world (it's really just a fancy game of Minesweeper, but still fun).

Well, I was bored yesterday, and started playing an SNES game called Hagane... Damn, it's a great game. I don't know how established it is in the fan community, but I sure as hell never heard of it.
