That would be a top loader, yes it's more rare than the normal NES. and the image on the page manuel linked is an NES, those are just the updated "dogbone" controllers. I'd like to find a top loader for my collection.

I'd like to find a top loader for my collection. o i just know this, I think it works much better then the original nes. Ivr almost never had a problem with it but on my regular nes it would mess up a lot.

The toploader came out in the US? I envy you again. No such things like NES toploaders in Germany.

My old NES still works fine and I never had bigger problems with it. I just like toploaders better. :)

I want a top loader, but they're RARE in Canada from what I've heard... also, I'm currently using the composite out on my NES since my TV doesn't have RF, the top loader only has RF. but it can be modded to output composite. maybe I'll find one someday...

That's definately the only drawback. I'm not a fan of the dogbone myself, but I do like the RCAs better than RF. I want a top-loader and another spare NES "toaster" so I can hack up the one I have. It seems NES-Luke has motivated me to try my hand at some hardware configurations! http://robertlbryant.com

I have a friend with THREE top loaders. I think they look great, but the no RCA out thing bothers me. I like the picture quality I get out of my first-gen NES. With a new 72-pin and clean games, I have no problem with blue screens or anything. I also prefer the dogbone controller. Can't go back to the older "box" style controllers now. Too square and uncomfortable. EDIT: And yes, your toploader is rare. NES put that out during the early SNES days to try and cash in one last time on the NES. You're lucky to find one for under $100 on ebay.

"BadDog82" wrote:mine was opened but it works great wow opened for 50$ i bet if someone had a closed one considering that one original nes toaster was 250$ or close then that could probably go for a pretty good amount

not exactly.new toploaders usually go cheaper than new toasters. ive had many opportunities to buy new toploader from $120 - $160 but havent.... much less than the average new toaster

really... thats weird but cool yeah porbably because the toaster is older so theres not as many of them still factory sealed but theres probably more toploaders that are sealed

I just read how a lot of you dislike the RF output of the Toploaders...well, I have some good news...some toploaders were released with A/V output. They are just extremely rare to come across from what I've heard. So keep an eye out for those ;) -Speedy

So is a top loader better than the original? or does it even matter?

I honestly think it doesn't matter. A top-loader would be a cool collectors item, but if you maintain your toaster, it'll work just as well. I've never seen the top-loaders with composite hook-ups that Speedy was talking about, but that'd make that pretty cool. http://robertlbryant.com
