Indeed, $50 is the Pre-Ordering price around here too, Well I found out a certain Game Store just an 20 mins away from me has Pre-Order's and you could put down $5 if you really wanted too I guess. But I may line up on Saturday and wait for the Wii.

Getting in line two months early? that should be fun. :P

Not all of the consoles a store orders will be pre-ordered will they? Surely they will have some you can buy if you wait outside or come early enough. I really dont wanna pre-order one for 50 bucks.

True that. But it's your call if you want to Pre-Order it or not. I have a feeling they won't be all sold out at Lanuch if you go in the morning. I am waiting for the best pre-order deals, like maybe Best Buy or Future Shop may gave out a free T-Shirt or hat with Pre-Order. I wouldn't mind walking around with a shirt that says "Wii" or even a hat for that matter! :D

Some places say the the least ammount is $50. If you wanted to you can pay for the system now and just wait to pick it up.

It's not an additional $50, just part of what you pay for the item.

Well, I'm still debating wheather or not to get it on launch. I might sell my Dragon Warrior games (I-IV) so I can maybe like 100 dollars towards the Wii...

MP3 Playback on Wii

Nintendo reveals that Wii has native support for MP3 playback in Nintendo's latest translated entry of "Iwata Asks."

Nintendo continues to reveal delicious nuggets of Wii information in its long-running Q&A series with Iwata and his underlings. In the latest addition Iwata talks with Kouichi Kawamoto, most recognized for directing Brain Age for Nintendo DS.
In the interview, Kawamoto explains the history and motivation behind his Photo Channel. While Iwata and Kawamoto mentions entertaining features such as drawing graffiti, most surprising is its support for audio playback: when viewing a slideshow, MP3s stored on the SD card will play in the background. Kawamoto also mentions video playback, though it seems to be fairly limited.

While Nintendo's built-in MP3 playback looks to be confined to the Photo channel for now, game developers will likely be able to offer similar MP3 playback in their own software, not unlike the custom soundtrack feature Microsoft offers. Wii's SD card slot opens many new possibilities—MP3s and digital images could just be the beginning.

If you missed earlier episodes of "Iwata Asks," be sure to read up!

That's nice to hear. I have lot of mp3s and some SD cards floating around.
I think when I get a Wii I won't use the mp3 function very often (I'm sure I'll test it once though), but it's cool that they added this.

Since Nintendo is said to be so Apple-ish these days, wouldn't it be good for ipod owners if they could plug their ipod into the wii via usb? Use itunes via Wii? (Wii-tunes?) There are so many possibilities...

Well, here we go. Nintendo is officially breaking away from strictly console. I knew that was going to happen. I guess it's no big deal, but I always thought that was awesome that they didn't include extra garbage that I won't use anyway... just a console. Oh well I suppose.

Bear with it. If you look at CD/DVD-based consoles, all except Gamecube had extra functions i.e. CD and/or DVD playback.

If they use the mp3 function for games, then it isn't even "garbage".
Such little functions that don't cost extra money are ok I guess.

"Wii Component Cables Sold Online Only"

Quote:
480p a Go For Wii Launch
NOA confirms that component cables will be available to purchase. Pricing inside.
by Matt Casamassina

October 19, 2006 - Nintendo last month revealed that its new Wii home console would ship with composite cables for standard resolution televisions. However, the company did not specify whether or not high-definition TV owners would be able to separately purchase Wii component cables to run games in progressive-scan, and hence we've been bombarded with a steady flow of questions from concerned readers.

Well, today you can finally stop flooding our e-mail boxes because Nintendo of America has commented on the subject and yes, your component cables are on the way.
A spokesperson for the company told IGN Wii this morning that the Wii component cables would be available for purchase with the launch of the console in November. The cables will cost $29.99 and will only be available through online retail outlets, including Nintendo's store, Best Buy, Circuit City and EB Games.

If you already own GameCube component cables, you're out of luck because these are not compatible with the Wii console.

Why Nintendo is again only selling its component cables via online retailers -- as it did with GameCube -- is a mystery, but at least the solution will be available immediately.

Nearly all of the 30 or so Wii launch window games run in 480p and 16 modes.

I heard about that... So we're going to have the exact same problem as the GameCube... Cables that are foolishly expensive, and impossible to get because Nintendo will never have any in stock.

Yea I don't understand that either. It's not like it's going to kill Nintendo to ship them to stores and retailers. They're still getting their money so why does it matter.

It would even bring them more money if they shipped to retailers, right?
I mean, more people would buy it if they found it in stores.
I don't quite understand Nintendo's decision...
