Yea I remeber that being released right before PS2 came out. Sounded pretty cool because it played PS1 games, DVD's, and had an internal harddrive for recording.

Actually it was released years after the PS2 came out.

I'd never heard of it either. It looks pretty cool, but i'd probably never get one, even if it were released in Europe.

I remember hearing this huge hoopla about it, and then suddenly it disappeared off of the face of the earth.

You haven't heard of the PSX???

That shocks me. Sony did a good job in covering their flop it seems.

I was in Japan when PSX came out and it was in the shelves of all the markets and nobody seemed to even be interested in it. :)
That was nice. (Sorry, I'm a Nintendo fanboy and that had to be said.)

The problem was it was way too expensive. (800-1000$ !!!!11!)

I remember first hearing about the PSX. It was rumored to have DVD burning capabilities and such, along with its ability to play PS1/PS2 games and record media to its internal HDD.
They used to sell on eBay for $1200-1500 (US).

"PSX" was the adopted abbreviation for the original PlayStation by third party companies (for their peripherals and such) but not by Sony themselves.
Although the prototype name for the system was going to be "PlayStation X", eventually the "X" was dropped upon it's release.

The true (and correct) abbreviation for the original PlayStation is actually "PS1".
