What do you think about Japanese animation and comics? Do you have favourites? My favourites in manga are: Slam Dunk (Takehiko Inoue) Dr. Slump and Dragon Ball (Akira Toriyama) Fushigi Yuugi (Yuu Watase I''s (Masakazu Katsura) What's Michael (Makoto Kobayashi) Do you know any of these? (I'm pretty sure everybody knows Dragon Ball) As for anime, I love the works of Hayao Miyazaki. I own nearly all on DVD, like Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service or Spirited Away. I also like funny anime like The Adventures of the Mini Goddesses ( http://www.ex.org/5.1/16-anime_minigoddess.html) or Momoiro Sisters. (bt here: http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/199.html)

I haven't seen an anime that I actually like in a long time... The last anime movie that I remember diggin' was Ninja Scroll, and it's been years since I've seen that. As far as comics, I never read any (since I can't read Japanese!) However, I saw a Golgo-13 comic in Okinawa once, and now I could kick myself in the head for not picking it up.... http://robertlbryant.com

I was always fond of Dragon Ball Z, say what you like, but I enjoyed watching it. the action and characters were all cool. It just held my attention better than anything else I've seen.

I don't know about comics, but I've seen plenty of animation. For TV anime I like 'Cowboy Bebop' and a couple of series featured on Tech TV's original show 'Anime Unleashed'- which are 'Last Exile' and 'Lain'. Lain is absolutely frightening. One of the most well constructed animes I have ever witnessed. For movies, it's definitely the first 'Ghost In the Shell' and 'Grave of the Fireflies'. I wouldn't recommend 'Grave' to just any action oriented anime fan, however for fans of a well told emotionally driven story, it's a must see. I saw one 'Golgo 13' film (the one with the "Queen Bee") and it rules! They really need to make a new video game based on the edgy film version of Golgo's character. As for Dragon Ball Z, I tried watching it once but I couldn't stand the constant screaming and the rediculous angry faces the characters make (in addition to the art style which makes all the the DBZ characters look like mentally challenged midgets). http://www.playthenes.com

Dragon Ball Z would be a good anime, they just cut out so much material from the German version. 3-5 minutes of violent scenes from every episode. It's not so funny watching it then. :? I like the Dragon Ball comics more. Have all the 42volumes at home. :)

That's truly funny. But still better (?) is the real action movie of Fist of the North star. The main actor looks so dumb. If you have the chance you should watch it together with friends. :P

I was going to start a topic on this, but I found this one.
I'm getting more and more into it now. I've seen Ghost in the shell, Akira and Spirited Away. I'm also a fan of Studio Ghibli's work, I recently bought the cat returns and naussica of the valley of the wind. Liking them both. I saw howls moving castle at the cinema, I liked that as well.
Any more reccomendations apart from those in previous posts?

I LOVE that show! I watched the first 2 dvd sets (I borrowed them from a friend) and wanted to buy them, but TOO expensive. : I like Ranma 1/2 (got the first 2 seasons on DVD) and have watched stuff like Armitage, Bubblegum Crisis.
My husband HATES jap anime so I haven't watched it as much lately. http://www.myspace.com/jennikisaI need friends.... I had to nix Tom. He wasn't really my friend. His smile "mocked" me.

Well, I've started watching anime (more), and I can still say that I hate 90% of it. However, there are a few that I absolutely love, like Cowboy Bebop. It had humor, but it was genuinely funny, they didn't rely on retarded expressions or idiotic situations (like Trigun, or Evangelion). ... I hated, hated Wolf's Rain. Stupid show. Same with Samurai 7. Anybody watch Gungrave, or Vampire Hunter D? Those seemed interesting, but I never got around to watching them.

Lupin always reminded me of Duke Togo... not sure why. I think it's something about his appearance. Ah, well. It's all about Jigen, anyway. As for Inuyasha... uh, I'll leave that one to Commander Campkill. Reminds me of Dragon Ball Z. Ugh. Sorry, NES-Luke, but I'm afraid I can't share your interest in DBZ.
