That game was great. The system was good tho i liked the NES better tho i never had the problem of games not working after a while with the Sega like i did with the NES

Well, the Master System 2 came with Alex Kidd in Miracle World built into it. The first SMS had some snail maze game built into it. Also, the card slot was taken out of the SMS 2... There weren't too many great games for the card slot, anyway. They still should've left it, in my opinion.

A good example of why the Master System failed so miserably. That game is horrible (like the 95% of the rest of the SMS game library).
But still... they have 'Wonder Boy III'.

I remember the "snail maze game". That was on my SMS. You had to like hold left or right and press both buttons to activate it. It looked and played like an Atari 2600 game (which is probably why Sega never mentioned anything about it).

I'm pretty sure it was "up" and both buttons.

the SMS COULD have been a great system, but they really didn't get any great games for it. a good portion of the NES library is good quality fun.

But sadly Nintendo more or less killed the SMS. Back then, if you developed for Nintendo, you developed only for Nintendo. Also stores were reluctant to carry the SMS for fear of losing Nintendo.

Maybe it is. So you've played it too. It has some catchy music.

Actually it was much more extreme than that. Nintendo DEMANDED retailers not to sell ANY games or consoles from other gaming companies. Not just small retail stores either, we're talking K-mart, Target, Toys R' Us, etc.
This coupled with the lack of third party developers pretty much spelled doom for the Master System.

As for the disappointing game line-up, virtually all the SMS launch titles were poorly made arcade ports of already mediocre games. I was not a big fan of 'Afterburner' or 'Outrun' and that's the kind of games the SMS had.
The playability factor of most of those games is atrocious. Virtually every game consisted of one-hit kill game play or frantic button mashing.

I used to think the "card games" were neat (because they were the size of actual "cards") and I used to think they were crap (still do) because they consisted of garbage like 'F-16 Fighting Falcon' and 'My Hero'.

Don't get me wrong, the Master System is not a console that I want to dislike, but it truly had one of the most dismal game collections of any system.

Except of course for the wonderful 'Wonder Boy III'!

I have a Wonder Boy III cart coming as soon as it can be located.

also, since this mod was done on my SMS, I suppose it fits here.

I shorted the jumper to make it a PAL console... I feel sorry for all of our european members, or anyone that has to use that... flickery, music was slow... everyone needs to use NTSC, PAL is terrible.

We all know PAL is terrible. That's why newer games come with 60HZ modes (PAL 60) and lots of gamers buy American and Japanese hardware and games.

That looks like a nice forum. If I loved my SMS as much as my NES I'd surely hang around there. :)

Not bad for a start... still need to find Rastan!

EDIT: I haven't even peeled the stickers off yet! ha

Does anyone else here a Sega Master system? I've always enjoyed my Master system. I'm not saying it's better then the NES because it's not.... but it does have a bunch of 8-bit goodness that only came out on the Master system.
I want a Sega Master for a main reason that it has the game King's Quest on it. Which is a completely no- fighting adventure game/ rpg. Are there any Sonic games for SMS?

Maybe it's better if I didn't have an avatar so i didn't have to spend all my time making one...

Yep, there are actually quite a few, although if you mean just the standard Sonic the Hedgehog, then it got the first and second games.

If you like RPGs you need to get Phantasy Star, it's the best RPG on an 8-bit machine that I've discovered.

I would say it plays more like Dragon Warrior than Final Fantasy, but it's really in it's own league.
