Awright, my brother's too shy to ask around on the forums, so I will. He needs help with his Xbox, and since I am most certainly not a tech man, I can't really help him. The problem is; "when I tried to put in my disk, it made a funny sound, and it wasn't loading the normal Xbox beginning screen, and it typed up on the screen to contact customer service, and the little light around the disk button was blinking red." He's too lazy to actually call customer service, so I was wondering if anyone could name some potential problems that would cause this?

Funny sound? Your hard drive asplode? Best bet really would be to do as the box suggests and call customer service.

THIS might help you diagnose it yourself. Now weather or not you will be able to fix it is a different story :D .

Check this out..... I asked them a few questions about X-BOX and they seemed pretty knowledgable. Although I think they mostly deal with modded X-BOX's.

"Commander Campkill" wrote:twat waffle It's a pretty funny insult. I give it 9/10. Maybe your laser fell out of alignment. That's sort of what it was like when my gamecube's laser bit the dust. They couldn't fix it :D :D :D

I took great pleasure in informing him that he was a twat waffle. He didn't really get it, though, as the only word in the slur that he understood was "waffle". Well, it was an HDD time out... in other words, absolute failure. So now we'll try to get that new hard drive and motherboard. And still no luck in getting him to start posting here, as he is not interested in collecting. Buuuuut, he still wants that N64... there's still time.

I get the "service required" screen every once in awhile. My XBOX is modded though, so usually the error is because of complications with the internal clock and stuff that's easily fixable. It should be noted that each "service required screen" has a number on it that corresponds to whatever the problem is. It's called an "error code". For a more detailed explaination of "error codes" check here- http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=167408 http://www.playthenes.com

Twelve. After an awkward silence, I changed the subject. He got the gist of it, though.

I agree with OSG. Either this or the laser's dirty...and my "twat waffle" of a friend tried to clean my PS2 laser and wound up ripping the data ribbon or whatever it is and had to buy me a new system...ha! I don't know much about X Box but there are settings in the PS2 to align the laser.
