What are your opinions on the Dreamcast?
Do you own one or plan to buy one?

I plan to buy one in the next... years... months perhaps.

What good games can you recommend, which bad games do you not recommend?

(I'm especially interested in good RPGs, so I hope for your recommendations :) )

I plan to buy one but same as you don't know when. It's probably the best system that has ever met a commercial failure; it had a ton of good games. I think that in a few years time the Dreamcast will be a hughly popular retro system with lots of collecters (kinda like the NES now).

I was in Japan last year and the cheapest used Dreamcast (with box and manual and everything) was 3990 Yen (<40$). I didn't have the money then, but should I find a DC for that price again this year I'll buy it then.

I bought mine about a year ago now, and I love it. if you can, try to get a revision 0 or 1, they can play CD-Rs, which means NESterDC

The revision number is on the bottom in a circle beside the PAL or NTSC designation.

Does this also count for Japanese consoles?

I'm not sure about that... probably better to get an earlier one anyway...

Thanks for the advice. I wouldn't have known if you didn't tell me. I'll look for that number on the bottom of the console. :)

I bought a Dreamcast today! :D I checked the revision number before I did and it has a 1 so thanks for that advice NES-Luke. I've been trying to get NesterDC to work but no luck so far. I downloaded a trial of Discjuggler V.4 so I could burn it but the Dreamcast doesn't recognise it. I think the problem may be that NesterDC was designed for V3 of Discjuggler (well that's what they use in the FAQ on their website anyway. I followed all the instructions so it should have worked). Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Not a big problem if I can't solve it because emulation isn't the main reason I bought a dreamcast anyway.

I always used Nero 5.5 to burn games for the DC. It's not the current version, but I believe the newer version won't allow you to burn games for DC. You usually have to jump around "hoops" to get a copy of it...

I always used Alcohol 120% to burn my DC games, of course I only burn legal, open software for my DC ;) all of my stuff came from the now defunct http://www.suprnova.org so it was just simple disc images. another place you may want to look would be IRC bots... http://www.packetnews.com

I have Nero 5.5 and knew it could be used to burn roms but I was under the impression you couldn't use it to burn the NesterDC emulator. Am I wrong on that? I hope I am!

I bought my DC on 9.9.99, still runs, still hooked up to my TV, right next to my Cube.

The DC JUST barely edges out the GC for my favorite console of all time. I was a very passionate supporter of the Dreamcast, and of Sega during the system's short lifespan.

The design of the DC is great. It's one of the most beautiful and elegant consoles. :)

Man, the DC is awesome! I wish I still had mine! I still have all my games, though. I WILL get another one. I used to love playing Typing of the Dead! That was pretty fun, and helped with typing skills. Also, Illbleed was an interesting take into the survival horror genre. Dude, those were fun times...

Do you happen to know any good Jump'n runs or RPGs for DC?

Best console EVER! I own one.

Good idea. They are quite inexpensive.

What good games can you recommend

Ikaruga (Best shooter EVER!)
Soul Calibur (Best fighter EVER!)
Virtua Tennis (Best tennnis game EVER!)
The Typing of the Dead (Best keyboard-word-typing-zombie-killing simulator... EVER!)

Let's see... um... don't really know any (but Sonic Adventure isn't quite all it's built up to be).

Grandia II and Skies of Arcadia are highly recommended. I'm not sure just how RPG 'Phantasy Star Online' would be now.

In addition to that, the DreamCast's emulation ability gives you access to the greatest game collection of all-time- the NES! Courtesy of NesterDC.

Thanks for your recommendations.

The typing of the dead... sounds freaky. :D When I see it I might buy it.

I own Soul Calibur 2 on Gamecube, and I'll definitely get that on Dreamcast.

Are Skies of Arcadia and Skies of Arcadia Legends on Gamecube the same games?

How are the Shenmue games? I heard good things about them.

I have a demo of Typing of the Dead, but no keyboard, so I've been unable to play it.

Soul Calibur is the ONLY 3D fighting game I can get into.

I haven't tried Skies of Arcadia, but I was strongly considering it.

now for Shenmue... Have you seen Kung-Fu movies? well, it's like that, but in video game form. there is a lot you can do. it was very innovative for it's time.

I'm playing through Shenmue right now. I've decided to make it my "game to beat" for the month.

At first it seems a little slow, but things start picking up when you actually start fighting.

This game is so well detailed. I think it has just about the best atmosphere of any video game I have ever experienced (you really get the feeling you're in a small Japanese town in the mid 1980's).
I wasn't sure what to make of Shenmue at first. It seems that a lot of the reviews I have read about this game tend to be somewhat negative (people just don't like this game's pacing and strict time management).

So far, I don't see a problem with it.
