Does anybody know a game like Mario's Picross on the NES?
Could also be a pirate game.

I guess not. I never heard of it anywhere else except for the Game Boy.

It also came out on the SNES but I've never heard of anything like it on the NES. Most likely a pirate.

I've not actually played it but I know it's some sort of puzzle game.

It's quite difficult to explain...
http://www.classicgaming.com/tmk/mpicross.shtml
Look for a screenshot here.
The numbers on the side show you how many tiles in a row you can remove.
E.g. 15, then you can remove all the 15 tiles in that line.
The second horizontal line in the screenshot says "2 2", this means there are 2 tiles and another 2 tiles to be removed.

Get the priciple?
It's quite addicting.
I was wondering if there was anything similar on the NES...

it looks a lot like a slide puzzle to me, and I believe there were some NES/FC games called 15 puzzle or something that followed that theme, not sure entirely though.

It's not a slide puzzle...

I'll try the rom for 15puzzle, though.
Thanks for the hint.

You should try it when you have the possibility.
If you have a snes emulator, grab Mario's Super Picross for it.

It's very addicting. :D

Many of the sites mentioned in the NES roms thread also hold SNES roms.
