There are those nsf sound files, right? Is there something similar for the SNES? I would love to have music files from some of my beloved SNES games. Does anybody happen to know?

I was chatting with Z.E.N earlier, and he mentioned something about those... I can't remember what they're called, but maybe when he comes on he can shed some light on it for us.... *paging Z.E.N, Z.E.N, you have a phone call* http://robertlbryant.com

I searched a bit on the internet and couldn't find anything so far. Only MIDIs...

*Answer's phone* Okay this better not be one of those stupid automated calls telling me about how I just randomly won a free trip to Florida!:x Huh? Super Nintendo music? Well, SNES music files are called "spc". You'll need a special plug-in to play them and a media player that supports the plug-in. I recommend the KB Media Player. http://home7.highway.ne.jp/Kobarin/KbMIDI/kbmidi.htmIt's a Japanese media player that can do SPC and several other gaming audio formats, including NSF (NES), GYM (Genesis) and GBS (Game Boy). For SPC files, you can find a large collection of them at Zophar's Domain. http://www.zophar.net/zsnes/spc/(NOTE: the KB media player's interface is written in Japanese, but if you have a grasp on the language, you should be able to use it without problems. I can only play stuff on it with the default settings so I haven't quite unlocked its full potential.) http://www.playthenes.com

Oh thank you so very much!!! :D
I'll try that as soon as the weekend comes. (Now I'm on a university computer)
It's no problem that it's Japanese. :)
When I find the time I could try to translate the most important things? Of course just when you are interested. :)

My connection speed is so slow, sometimes it won't all download. That makes for a huge disappointment. It would be great if you could make a tutorial on it! Once you get it, please do so! I have no clue on Japanese, and if it's written in that much Japanese, I will be lost. :? http://robertlbryant.com

if you like the music on the SNES, I suggest you listen to some Genesis music. Take a game that was released on both consoles and listen. the SNES is muffled and just sounds bad in comparison.

They always wrote that in the magazines. I'll check it out next time.

Well, it seems that the KB Media player is written in mostly Japaneses for sure. I'm not quite sure what some of the options are. I can play the nsf's fine (still haven't tried any other types), but the songs all get length tacked on them. I want to figure out how to set the time.... If you get a chance Manuel, grab this and help me out please...... :( I would appreciate it... http://robertlbryant.com

The NSF's all cut off at the 1:30 mark, which is not good for games like Solstice and Target: Renegade (who have over 2 minutes of composition). The Genesis GYM's are perfect though. I've been jamming Zero Wing's soundtrack all day. http://www.playthenes.com

I'll look if there's a way to solve this problem.
There we have it.
Default length of the played files.
Go in the "tools" menu. It's labeled ツール(T), there click on "environment settings" >> 環境設定(C) It's the first line in the tools menu.
A card pops up. There try the third register, which is labeled 演奏設定. In the right-down corner there are two white fields. The values are "90" and "30". Change the value 90 (seconds) to the value you like, e.g. 240 for 4 minutes.
Finish with "apply" (適用), it's the middle button at the bottom.
I hope everybody could understand my instructions. If not, post you questions here again. I will translate more of it later.
I hope I could be of some help. :)
Please post your successes here.

Sweet! That worked. The only problem is, the markings you have are different from the one's on the program... I was able to figure it out from what you gave, however... Could you tell us from left to right what the name of each menu is? Thanks! http://robertlbryant.com

Perhaps they changed it in the new version?
I'll try to translate all the menu text.

That takes an awful lot of time. That software has quite large menues. I did the first couple of screenshots. I sent them to Derek. Hope he can put them up quickly. Tell me what you think about the style. And also tell me what I could do better. (I know I can do a lot better... I'm not good at such stuff) Best for me would be, I just write a word document with all the Japanese terms plus translations. Would save me a lot of time. But can everybody interested display Japanese on their PCs? Then you would just have to compare what you want to know with my document. I mailed the guy and asked him if he would set up an English version when I sent him a translation. Let's see whether he answers or not. :) edit: I tried imageshack, wonder if it works? seems so :) Have a look at those, too:

HOLY CRAP!!! That's awesome, Manuel!!! Right now I'm at the school, monitoring lab time in the computer room. When I get home, I'll be sure to check this out in depth!!! Looks real good, dude! I can't thank you enough! It seems I'll probably be bookmarking that page!!! http://robertlbryant.com

Derek also put the files up on my space at nesfiles. And the menues still aren't complete. It'll take a few more days. Glad you liked it although it's quite amateurish. The guy from the homepage wrote back. He said he's too busy to implement other languages, but there's a - how did he call it - forcible patch, that should translate most of the text to english. He didn't seem to be too happy about that hack kind of patch. It also says that not all Japanese would be translated. For people who are interested, look here. http://www.vorc.org/crew/hex125/I don't want to patch my player, so I can't try it out. If anybody does, please post here what you think. If there is still need for a translation, post your requests here. Then I'll go on and translate all the other menues, too.

Wow! The patch works beautifully! Quick how-to... ...extract the patch to the folder with Kbmplay.exe in it. Click on the patch, and you're done! You can open the regular .exe and now have an English version! There is very little that's not English, so it shouldn't be a problem... As for the guy not being too happy about the patch...? He should think it's cool that people want to use the program outside of Japanese users (or readers :)) It's a great program! Anyway, thanks again Manuel. The translations are just about the exact wording you gave us! http://robertlbryant.com

I'm glad that my translations weren't too bad. :)
So please, everybody interested, download the patch and have fun. :)
