It will be discontinued some time.

If you are lucky you run into much cheaper cubes in clearance sales or something.

i paid that much for my 'Cube, and that almost 4 years ago. i'd hold off another month or so when the Wii comes out and the 'Cubes price drops.... unless you really want one right now.

try Wal-Mart or Target, they might have a bundle pack or something (i have no idea if Toys R' Us has that or not)

yeah the 99 dollar one is just the Gamecube, Wal-Mart has the system plus a controller and memory card and Super Mario Strikers for $145.

that's not a bad idea if you want SM Strikers. but you could get the one from Toys R' Us, and buy a $20 game (Resident Evil 4!!!) and save some $$

Possibly. I remember the N64 dropping below that price. You'll just have to give it time I guess.

The cheapest price I've seen in Germany is 77 Euro for a White Cube with Mario Strikers. (under 100$)
If you don't *need* it now I guess it's better to wait a bit.

On the flip side, I don't think the cube is being manufactured anymore. So it may be in your best interest to get one soon, unless you don't mind settling for a used one.

I'm not sure about the manufacturing. But I know they produced Famicoms until 2003 (US-NES was produced until 1995), so the Cube should be around for at least two years I guess.

I also wanted a Panasonic Q awhile ago. Too bad Nintendo didn't gave us DVD play back on the GCN like no Music or whatever. I know smaller disks the GCN uses but still an upgrade or an add-on or something.

Nintendo didn't make the Q either, Panasonic did...

If you really want one, I recommend you get one now, as fast as possible.
I'm pretty sure prices will rise and not go back again.

Campkill is right you know...

While some people might actually use a DVD playback function I guess more people won't. And why should many people pay for a function they don't use? And even if it increses the price only for 10$, it's wasted money.

I'm sure I wouldn't use the Wii to play DVDs. I have my dedicated DVD player that can play DivX/Xvid and that's enough for me.

While I agree in the case of the GameCube, the Wii is already using standard DVDs, it wouldn't require any more manufacturing costs, it'd be a one-time cost of developing DVD playback software. Since they already promised such a feature, they should suck it up and implement it. Otherwise they're a little close to the actions of Sony with all the empty promises.

Yes, I know this is about the GameCube, but it's relevent to the Wii too.

I would have liked a DVD play back on the GCN, I know it's just for games but it would have been a nice little extra..And it would save me some space so I don't have to have an DVD player and CD player hooked up.

Doesn't DVD playback cost royalities?
If not I don't understand the DVD uncapable Wii either, but if it would cost them fees to implement DVD playback it was good they refrained from it.

And there's still the possibility that a 3rd party releases the needed software or hardware dongle for DVD playback for those people who want it.

The $20 DVD players that Wal-Mart sells would imply that those royalties are so foolishly low that there's no reason NOT to do it. if some junky little company can afford to manufacture the whole unit, pay the royalties, and still make a profit on a $20 unit, then it's not enough to worry about.

You've got a point there.
But maybe those just don't pay the due royalties?
In Germany DVD players aren't that cheap yet. The cheapest I've seen is around 40 Euro, which would be around 50$.

Still Nintendo should perhaps just put DVD playback in. It can't be that expensive and they have actually said it would be there.
I wouldn't use it, but a promise is a promise I guess.
