 Square Enix announced today (2006.12.12) that the next installment of the Dragon Quest series will be on the Nintendo DS. The title is: "Dragon Quest IX - Hoshizora no moribito" (Protector of the starry sky) 2 pics on the Famitsu page.Found on joystiq. I can't wait! I want it! :D

I wouldn't say Sony is dead though... maybe half-dead, like Zombies. :P
Maybe DQIX will be the best-selling DS game. 4 or 5 million units are definitely possible. I guess I will preorder as soon as it becomes possible. :D

Got them off Good ol'Google. I could see Dragon Warrior selling lots of copies. But could it out sell Pokemon D&P? I dunno.. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Why shouldn't it outsell Pokemon?
Dragon Quest is the best selling series ever.
Dragon Quest VIII sold over 4 million units in Japan.

Dragon Quest VIII sold over 4 million units in Japan. Maybe the fact that this is the FIRST Online Pokemon game? :wink: They will be pretty close at unit sales at least. I wonder how many units of Pokemon D&P have sold in Japan?

According to http://eg.nttpub.co.jp/ranking.html, Pokedom Diamond sold 1996275 times and Pearl 1669367. (as of 10th December) Together that's 3665642. Until xmas the two games combined could well hit 4 million. I guess time will tell what sells best. I think it would be nice to see a 3rd party game sell more units than Nintendo software. This would be an incentive for Nintendo to produce still better games. I wonder how many units of DQIX will be sold in the first week. A nice bundle with a special edition DSlite would be cool, too and sell like hotcakes.
