So I go to the store with one thing in my mind....

Mega Man Anniversary Collection!

I figured, "Hey, I'm on a roll with these GameCube games, might as well keep going with it!" I get there, and the same woman looks at me like, "You again?" I laughed and asked for the game.

I get home, and my son and I are both anxious... (he's an MM fan, also :) ).
When I got the game in and selected which game to play, I noticed that the controls are.....BACKWARDS!!!

I've been playing Mega Man almost since it came out, and to me the jump button belongs to the right, and the fire button to the left of that... not the other way around! There is probably no way I can get used to it, mainly probably because of muscle memory on alot of parts....

Why would they do this AND not include a button configuration menu?!? Totally wrong. I plan on taking this game back probably tonight or the first thing in the morning....

You can't configure the buttons?
If that's true it's ridiculous.
Every good anthology let's you configure the buttons.

That's a bad thing.

Thank you for the warning. I thought about buying that collection in Japan. :?

Yeah, it's horrible. After so many years of playing Mega Man, there's no way I can switch up. It doesn't feel very natural. No configuration for the buttons is an awful thing..... I'm still in awe....

Capcom screwed it up, and with the music too, it doesn't repeat right.

If I were a forum mod... Earth as we know it would simply cease to exist.

The thing that kept me from picking it up... the d-pad on the Cube controller... I simply cannot use that thing. I have insanely large thumbs, and that just doesn't work... same reason I can't play the NES Zelda games on the Cube...

Did you read the manuel or ask the store manager about it? I think thats kind of stupid w/no configing it.

I agree , My friend gave me the game after he was done with it and I can't even play it , it's so bad. I can't get the buttons right after all those times beating the Megamans on the NES. It'll be good trade bait.

Well, when I went to take it back the other day...

THEY WOULDN'T TAKE IT!

Something about copyright laws, and they could only exchange it for the same game! I don't even know anyone who could copy a GameCube game! Man, does that piss me off! Now I'll have to go to a pawn shop to get anything out of it...

I did see a pawn shop that had CV: Symphony of the Night... maybe I'll go there...

No, he actually didn't read me before.

That's normal. Once you opened the game they can't take it back and give you your money back. I think that's the same everywhere on the world. You can't copy Cube games so easily, but e.g. PS2 games can be copied in no time, that's one reason why they can't take it back. The other reason is, what should they do with an already opened product? Sell it again?
It's bad for the customer, but that's the situation. :(

Basically it boils down to the fact that I didn't know much about the game before purchasing. Maybe I'll have to start reading reviews or something. I tend to hate most reviews I read, though. Most of the time people rate something really high just because it's something that they're familiar with, and don't actually judge the game accordingly.

If anyone knows a site with good reviews, let me know...

Yes, there's a great problem with reviews.

The best reviews site I know is only in German, unfortunate for you. :(
I'll post the link anyway.
http://www.mag64.de
They have Gameboy Color and Advance, N64, Gamecube, DS. No NES, because the site started when the NES was already over. :

A good place for RPG reviews is
http://www.rpgfan.com.
A friend of mine is news editor there. For RPGs this is a very good source.

Isn't that a "manual" correctly?

Manual comes from the Latin word manus, which means hand, more specifically from "manualis", which means "of the hand" or "belonging to the hand".
In old French it actually was "manuel" when I get that right. 8)

My name originally is a Hebrew name with the meaning "God be with us".

That was today's lesson of etymology.

Did you have the GameCube or PS2 version?

From what I hear you can configure the buttons on the PS2 version. That would help immensely. I can't stand when buttons are weird and you have to change style for a game that you played a million times.

If you can configure on the PS2, I'll probably get that version.

if you're a REAL MegaMan fan you have the carts for the NES, so you don't need to buy the crappy emulator version on some other console...

That's true.
The original is still the best thing. And best played with the original controller.
The original carts have cool artworks and the Japanese versions come in different cart colors. 8) I think I have to get those when I have the chance.

I definitely want all the carts. But usually they go for around $20 apiece around here when they have them. I'll be aiming to get them, but in the meantime, it's much faster to be able to play them all for $20.

I'm so glad there was topic opened for this!

I was really pissed off when I played the MM anniversary collection on my cube. It's obvious the guys who coded the MM collection are never the same guys who coded the originals.

I've posted on some GC hacking sites to see if anyone could patch a GC iso image to change the button mappings. Unfortunately I've had no replies yet.

The wrong buttons was enough to get me to take it back but...surprise surprise, the screwed up buttons wasnt a good enough reason to return it lol.
