I'm just curious... Here in Germany credit cards aren't that common. But I heard that e.g. in the UK or in America nearly everybody has one. Do you own one? I got mine today.

Ah, priceless...
Back to the point, yeah, I own a credit card.

I don't have a credit card, and I don't plan on getting one. The concept of spending money I don't have confuses me.

I would pick "No", but I'm not afraid of fraud, I just wouldn't want one for reasons previously mentioned. And interest.

I wrote the fraud thing only for fun. ;) You have a valid point there. A debit card is much safer as it let's only spend you as much money you have on it.

I was the first one to say "yes, I even have more than one" I have 2 credit cards, and a big line of credit through dell, and a couch that is also on a line of credit. Which I might add, all are paid off as of this month. I believe that credit can be a great thing, IF you use it right. Even if you don't want to "spend money you don't have" you can still use a credit card. Just be smart and only buy stuff like groceries, house supplies, and other needed stuff that you have enough $$ to pay off every month. You still slowly build credit and you are not spending money you do not have. I don't know about you guys, but I hope to own a home someday (instead of paying $500+ per month to some jerk-off landlord). And a nice credit report can get you a great loan for just that.

You definitely have a point there about building credit. I never even thought about that. It would be nearly impossible for someone with no credit background to get a loan for as little as $10,000 while someone with an average credit report could easily get 10 grand if not more.

I don't have one and I don't ever plan on getting one. I just have no need for one. I don't know anybody about my age who has one either, or wants to get one. However, if you can pay them off at the end of every month, thusly gaining no intrest, then that's alright.

I didn't need one, but there's so much stuff I want to buy online (because stores here don't have it), and most places only let you pay by credit card. That's the main reason I got one. None of my friends has one.

I agree with manuel, online shopping is the reason I have a credit card as well.
I do have this one friend, he's not the sharpest tack I've met though, but he uses his credit card for buying bubble gum and other small things, and that's just like 3 dollars or something.

Yeah I have a credit card. Got it when I was 18. I had just started university and opened up a student account and I think the credit card came with it automatically (I don't remember asking for it anyway). I was surprised how easy it was for students to get multiple credit cards as I was being offered them all the time. Strange seeming as most students don't have a job and live off their loan (which is debt in itself). Of course the companies want students to get in a load of debt with a high interest rate that they will have to pay off when they graduate. Anyway I think that credit cards are good for the reasons logandbz gave and I use mine for almost everything. But I always pay it off in full at each bill to avoid paying interest. The last thing you want to do is borrow off a credit card. It has the most awful interest rate of any debt.

My amazon credit card has a 12% interest rate per annum. That's not that bad I guess. Best thing is, first 6 months are 0% interest. :) I still want to pay off everything in the first month, though.
