Dear NES files forum users,

FIRST of all! What a freakin' amazing forum this is! I've been looking for a forum like this for a long time! :) I wish myself welcome! Hah....

[ boring presentation begins - skip this part if you don't care about my history! ]
Ok... I am Thomas. 26 years of age, and a die-hard Nintendo fan! I've been playing NES ever since it came out here in Norway (where I live) in 1986 (I think it was 1986 - as consoles always comes out a year or two later here than in the US and in Japan!) buuuuuut in 1993, when the SNES hit my country, I was forced to sell my NES (R.I.P where ever you are!) to afford a SNES! I also sold my SNES a couple years later when I got a SFC (PAL sucks.. NTSC f*cking rocks!!!) then I moved on to NTSC consoles and stayed with them. My N64 hit the house only a couple of days after it was released in the US in 1996 (a friend of mine bought it for me while on a business trip in the US!), then the Gameboy Advance hit my collection, as well as the amazing Gamecube, which I also got at the US release date. Oh yeah, and I don't approve of emulators and piracy. I only accept original consoles and games. Nothing beats owning a huge original games collection! I feel the same way with music and movies. I only buy original music cd's (and vinyls) plus original dvd's. It looks so much better, and feels so much better when you own the originals![ boring presentation ends here. haha. ]

I now almost have a complete Nintendo console collection (though I've recently come to the conclusion that any Nintendo console collection ain't complete until you have every console, from every region such as Europe, Japan and the US, PLUS every single release of every system!), and here's where it starts getting interesting AND difficult for me: I just bought a Virtual Boy off of Ebay, which is cool. However, when moving onto the NES, my mind clicked, and I fell deeply into this NES-craze - I guess you can all me an instant NES-collector-addict!!! I ordered three different NES Action Set's off of Ebay, and FINALLY my question is:

How many different versions of EACH of the NES packages were released? Let's stick to the US NES packages. I know that the Control Deck was released in 1985, in the US. The Action Set was also released in 1985 (correct me if I'm wrong anywhere!) - But the Action Set was also released again, with a ORANGE Zapper. Which year was this? And I ALSO know that the same Action Set w/ the orange Zapper was released once again in 1989. The difference with this package was slightly different artwork on the NES box. I wanna know how many different Control Decks, Action Set's etc. were released, and when... Photos of it all would be nice!

Ok, I think you get my drift... So, dear NES wizards, please help me out, as I plan on getting one of each release of every NES package ever! I am starting with the US NTSC released... Phew! It's gonna be a wild ride!

Oh yeah, and I only get these systems for my own gaming pleasure. These system are not going to be dust-collectors or sold to anyone! :) I am a real NES fan! :)

The good old NES is a charming little creature! <3

Hope to hear from you soon!

Thomas

Hi Manuel,

Weird thing that you replied to my first post. One of your posts were the first post I read on this forum! Hehe..

Anyways, I do plan on getting a Famicom (or, FamicomS!) and so on.. But I am starting with the US consoles. When that collection is complete, I will move on to the Japanese consoles, THEN finally the PAL consoles, which sucks. Hehe. I remember the first time a buddy of mine showed me his SFC in my room, back when I had my PAL SNES goin' - MAN what a differende in speed and graphics! It didn't take too many days before I had my own SFC console! :) Now I want all the PAL consoles so that I can compare them all! Plus, the PAL SNES brings back a lot of good memories. I am a very Consolemotional person! Yay, I invented a new word! Haha...

Hope to get some replies to my big question soon! :)

Let's focus on the US NES! How many different box artworks was ever released? <- I believe this is a simplified version of my question! :)

PS! I guess I suffer from some sort of... fuck.. I forgot the word.. What's it called when you GOT to have THIS and you GOT to have THAT and you feel like it's a force that FORCES you to collect all sorts of things. I forgot the word! Argh! :) Anyways... I guess I suffer from that! :) My DVD movie collection consists of 100% Zone 1 DVD's from the US. I freakin' HATE Zone 2 DVD's, as these DVD's suffer from less bonus material and worse picture quality. I know that the PAL resolution is higher than the NTSC one, but there's always more noise and sh*t in the picture on the Zone 2 DVD's! Therefore, I'm sticking to the originals. The Zone 1 DVD's! :) And I don't want anyone touching my collections either. My Nintendo consoles, my movies etc. They are locked into glass-shelves in my gaming room. Muhahaha... I guess I am evil, but I also feel I'm being good to my STUFF! :)

Rock on!
Thomas

I also am switching to NTSC consoles... Japanese ones. It's easiest to buy them used in Japan. :D
When I was little I didn't have the money and equipment (60Hz capable TV and stuff) for NTSC stuff.

Sorry that I can't help you about the US consoles and box styles, but I'm sure Luke, Roth, Shadow and the other guys will post quite a lot here when they find the new thread. :)

Roth,

Hey! I've seen that page before. Not bad, but it's not complete enough for me! :) I need to know the exact year that each of the systems were released on. And most importantly how many DIFFERENT versions of each package were released! I know I'm a NES-detail nut, but I'm proud of it, damnit! :)

Manuel,

Lol! Roth posted while you still typed your reply! Hah... Anyways.. I have high hopes now! Seems to me like we're a bunch of NES nuts on this forum now! :)

I actually bough a brand new TV just because of my SFC. I paid like $200 USD for a used SFC (with NO games, no nothing, no box.. Just the console! Period. Expensive? Naaah.. It was worth it! Haha!) aaaaand the TV, which was Sony's first ever 100HZ and also the top of the line model, cost me $2600 USD. This was back in 1994. Anyways, that TV set broke like 10 times in 1 year, so I changed it into the top of the line PHILIPS tv set. A beautiful 29 inch 100HZ tv set that never broke! :) PHILIPS rocks! Sony sucks! Oh, and I hate the PS and the PS2 as well! :)

PS! Did you all know that it was Nintendo who designed the PS? Yes, the PS is actually a Nintendo console! I know all the details......... But I want to check if you guys know the rest! ;) Go ahead, impress me! Muhahaha!

That's quite a lot of different sets.
We didn't have that much in Germany. I think about 3 or so. Don't know exactly, though.

Welcome aboard! The link Roth gave should cover what you're looking for. I know of some other PAL ones but it looks like you'll be busy with those NTSC ones for a while!

That's going to be a lot of NES's you'll end up with! :D

Edit: wow I must have been typing slowly/daydreaming because you replyed that you were looking for more than that link while I was writing this.

Manuel,

No, I think we (here in Europe) got all those sets. I will have to check with the guys at Nintendo here in Norway if this is 100% true. But I remember seeing alot of different NES sets here in Norway in the 1980's.

Ha!

Well, that's about the extent of my knowledge on the subject. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I'm going on the assumption that you've already Googled a ton of different words to find what you're looking for, seeing as how you found that page before. Maybe try a lot of different search engines... sometimes you get better results from others. :P

Daynum,

Well.. Actually, no! :) I am looking for a complete list of different NES systems INCLUDING the different box arts for the SAME systems.

The Action Set, for one, was released in 2 different versions: One with the GREY Zapper, and the last one with the ORANGE Zapper. However, in the late 1980's, the last Action Set with the ORANGE Zapper was released again with a different box art! The redish "beam" that once shot across the front of the box was gone, and the box got a thin red line at the top of the front side of the box with the words "Nintendo Action Set" or something like that. I am sure about this! :) However, I want real proof, real info about EVERY NES package EVER released in the US! :) Complete w/ different artwork and all, PLUS the release years, even the dates also! :)

Were there really that many? Well, I was little and couldn't afford so much stuff. I'm living in a very small village, the next (very very little) town is miles away. I may have overseen a lot regarding NES.

Note from that page that altough it shows the Super Set that was actually PAL only. Did the sports set and challenge set get released in Europe? I never saw them in the UK. I thought they were NTSC only.

Roth,

Yeah, I googled the hell out of those words! :) I've come up with a lot.. But not the complete history.. That's why I came here, to check in on your guys! - Hoping that you would be nutty enough to know all of this...

So, anyways.. Here are the three US NES Action Set's I've found out about so far:

NES ACTION SET MK I: The first Nintendo Action Set with the characteristic grey Zapper was released in the US in 1985 (?)

NES ACTION SET MK II VERSION 1: Then, after a short while, the same Action Set was released, though with an orange Zapper. I am not sure when this set was released! 1986 perhaps?

NES ACTION SET MK II VERSION 2: Then the Action Set with the orange Zapper got a slightly different box art. This set was released in 1989 (?)

_NrG_,

Hey! Nice Shigery Miyamoto animation at the bottom of your post! Haha...

Yeah, I checked the memberlist and quickly saw that Mr. Poster was at the top of the "number of posts" list! :) But you know, it's not the number of posts that count, it's the quality! :)

Favorite NES game? Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros 3 quickly comes to mind... Punch Out is also a classic! However, if I have to pick One favorite game, it's got to be... Super Mario Bros! Of course, memories plays a large part in this choice of game! :) I have fond memories of Shadowgate as well! Bayou Billy was also a favorite of mine! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was SWELL as well! :)

You are fully right. Quality counts.
I hope the overall quality of my posts isn't too bad.

Good luck for you finding all the different packages. When it comes to European ones I will surely try to help you.
