I just recently installed a new 72-pin connector in my NES to get the blinking screen problem to go away, however it only helped a little. Now I can see the credits at the beginning of each game instead of nothing before the NES turns off again. I am completely at a loss as to what I should do, since I have cleaned the whole thing inside and out and nothing seems to be working. Any ideas as to what I should do?

I suggest you disable the lockout chip and clean the games a little more, if that doesn't do it, you have a power supply issue.

The power supply is one that I bought new from radioshack and SHOULD be working. I know it works perfectly with my odyssey2 which can be used with an NES power adapter. I also have cleaned the cartridges twice. So I guess I'll try the lockout thing (though now that I look at it, I am hesitant to go in and snip part of a chip away)..

the lockout thing is really easy. as for the power supply, it could be something inside the NES itself, or the connector could be loose and it could just wiggle loose and reconnect.

I got it to work! It was indeed the lockout chip. BTW, it wasn't that easy, because my pliers were broken (I just used the screwdriver  ) THANKS!

OK, now I have yet another problem. The only game that will start correctly is "IronSword: Wizards&Warriors 2" by Acclaim. I have tried mario/duckhunt, mario 3, zelda, zelda2, dragon warrior, and kirby's adventure yet none of them start correctly. Sometimes I am able to get as far as a solid color on the screen, but not often. I have cleaned all of the games as mentioned before several times, so I doubt that could be the problem.

well, if it's STILL doing it, maybe the contact where the 72-pin connects to the mainboard is dirty, try cleaning that up... maybe it'll help...

I have a feeling I'm going to strip all of the screws soon.

I just tried cleaning the pins on the mainboard and it does not help. I did notice, however, that the pins on the 72-pin connecter are not exactly aligned on the side where it would touch the cartridge. The only cartridge that works does not use all of the pins, and I guess that could be the problem, but the deviance in only minor (and I can't get the pins to bend anyhow). This also would not explain why mario/duckhunt is not working since it uses the same number of pins. Also, for what it is worth, the revision is cpu-08. I am so lost.

sounds like your connector is crap... get another new one, or get a Game Genie...

I'm just going to toss this NES out since half the screws are stripped...and the 72-pin connector is now one with the cartridge slot. Nothing is worth spending 15 frustrating hours on when I can just buy another for less than $50. Thanks for your help though.

if you don't mind shipping it, I'll take it off your hands.

I know this may sound crazy but ive fixed atleast 100 NES systems this way. All you have to do is open the system, remove the shield and then remove the the cartridge holder with the pin connector, then take the motherboard out carefully, then take a tooth brush and some windex. Spray the bottom of the motherboard lightly (dont soak it)..then bush it with the tooth brush gently.....8/10 itll fix the problem without having to spend money on a ne pin connector..alot of the times what makes the nes not work is the motherboard has dust caked on it. Be very careful when you do this not because the nes is extremely delicate but the shield corners are very sharp..ive sliced my finger many times on it. If you have any questions just ask. :P
