WHOM!??
There's no PS2 thread yet? There is one about emulation on PS2, but nothing for the PS2 itsself. That has to be changed. So here it is. The official PS2 thread.
Tell everything you want to tell.
Why I made this thread? Perhaps I will buy a PS2 in Japan, or my wife will. There are some games my wife would like to play and they are only on PS2. Yeah, for my love I'd also buy an evil console like the PS2.
What excellent RPGs and Platformers can you recommend? I only want to buy the best of the best. My money is only enough for the very best. (max. 10 titles :( )
Happy discussing. :D

Well, I had a PS2. if you like the Final Fantasy series, which you seem to, FFX is a must have for sure. I spent over 80 hours just playing around in that game, I didn't want to finish it. it was much to fun in just about every aspect. I also owned Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, which was an incredible title, although I'm sure MGS3 outshines it in nearly every way. as much as it may go against my better judgement to suggest a "blockbuster" game that was overhyped, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is a great game with a lot of play options. it's not all that the hype built it up to be, but it is a great game.

I don't like shooters. :) Thanks anyways. Recommendations are always welcome. Supposed I really buy a PS2 (I'm not sure yet), at first I have to get "Saint Seiya" for my wife. http://ps2.ign.com/objects/717/717866.html?ui=gamefinderFor me?... Yeah, FFX would be great from what I heard. And Tekken 5. Ratchet & Clank is a good platformer I heard. Anybody played it? edit: Oh, I forgot one I want very badly: I need that game and in the end that's probably the reason for me to get a PS2... but only for a reasonable price.

People into online shooters should definately go for the SOCOM line of games. SOCOM II is out now but I think SOCOM III is set to come out some time late summer or fall.

So, let's revive this thread.
Next year I'll buy a PS2 with a chip (for playing imports ONLY of course...). Before that I thought I should get some games, so that I can play them as soon as I have the hardware.
On my list now are (all Japanese games): Genso Suikoden III Kaiketsu Zorori Mezase! Itazura King (Eye Toy compatible) Dream Audition (karaoke game with some songs my wife likes) Hamasaki Ayumi Visual Mix Dragon Quest VIII Final Fantasy X Final Fantasy X-2 (These 7 would cost me about 55$ at the online store I found. Not bad, right?)
Other than that I'd like to get Katamari Damacy, Okami and Dragon Quest V.
Can anybody give me advice for some more games? I'm especially looking for *good* turn-based RPGs. (I love turn-based fights, like in Golden Sun, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest or the Lufia series) Do you know RPGs that might meet my standards? If so, please tell me. And I would also be thankful for other recommendations. (please no shooting games, war games, beat-em-ups, sports or racing games)

Well, I think you all know what game I would recommend... Guitar Hero I (wanna start at the beginning ), then get GHII. Others I recommend (I don't play Turn-based RPG's so, this is everything but) Timesplitters 2 (cheap game) Soul Calibur 3 Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal Amplitude (Guitar Hero Prequel / no guitar) Shadow of the Colossus Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 Resident Evil 4 And Musashi (Sort of like: Zelda meets Kingdom Hearts) Just a few of my favs...

Thanks for the input.
I'm not so good with guitars... :( My sister wants Guitar Hero, though, so I might get a chance to play it.
I played a Demo version of Soul Calibur 3 and it played just like SC2 (which I own on GC). I actually thought about getting SC3, but nah, it too much feels like part 2.
Ratchet and Clank sounds good. Reviews are good, too. I might end up ordering that with the other games.
I also wanted Kingdom Hearts, but they don't sell it in the online store I found. And I don't want to pay the full price on amazon. I'm only buying cheap stuff this time, i.e. under 2000 Yen. KH is on my list, though.
I have Resident Evil 4 on the GC and don't play it very much... I guess that's just not my type of genre...
I'll have to do a bit of research on that Musashi game. I'm not so familiar with it, but because of what you wrote, I'm interested now. Thanks for the tip. :)
Keep it coming guys. I want to order in Japan about next week. :o

After I played Soul Calibur 3 for many many many hours with my friend, we tried SC2 again and it just sucked in comparison. If you do like the game and you had alot of fun with 2 then I highly recommend you go to SC3. Huge difference. Gameplay is wayyyy better. SC2 feels like a suped up tekken. Whereas 3 feels more like what 2 should have been. As for Musashi... definatly don't forget about that one. And a big thank you for making me remember that game. I never did finish it and I think I might start playing it again.

I enjoyed SC2, but not as much that I'd want part 3... maybe another time when I cbout 1000 Yen and I'll buy it. :) I checked for Musashi, but it's too expensive on amazon and they don't have it in the other online shop I'll order from. It's on my list though. Thanks again.

I ordered my first 10 PS2 games right now from 2 Japanese online shops. I ordered the following games: Genso Suikoden 3 Limited Edition Kaiketsu Zorori Mezase! Itazura King Dream Audition Hamasaki Ayumi Visual Mix Dragon Quest VIII Final Fantasy X-2 Jak&Daxter Naruto - Narutimetto Hero 2 Katamari Damashii Haruka naru toki no naka de: Hachiyoushou All games (8 used, 2 new) including shipping and fees (to Japan) cost 93$. That's only 9.30 per game. Not bad I guess. :)

FF X was good I enjoyed it. But FF X-2 was suckage. You should check out DBZ:BT 2 it's very good.(I have the Wii version but the PS2 version is also good from what I hear). And you are not alone at sucking at GH I am in that same boat. :)

I read some good reviews about FFX-2 and they were quite good, so I thought I might look into it. It was only 980 Yen anyways. FFX was 1980 Yen, so I guess I'll get that later. Maybe the used price goes still down a bit. They sent me a mail today and told me that Suikoden III was sold out, so my list goes down to 9 titles. I was looking forward to that game, but it can't be helped when they don't have it in stock any more. Maybe next time.

Games are expensive here. That's why I buy my games in Japan only. Here the platinum titles go for 20-30 Euro, and that's around 25-40$. Used games in game stores usually go from 15 Euro, very old titles (especially old sports games) can be had for 10, sometimes for 5 Euro. I prefer Japanese used game shops. Games starting from 20 Yen...

Can somebody of you help me out? I can't find the answer to my question on google... perhaps I don't search right. :?: :(
Can I put game saves of PAL games and NTSC games on the same memory card? On the gamecube I had to buy 3 different memory cards for PAL games, NTSC-USA games and NTSC-Japan games. That was a bit annoying. Is it the same with PS2?
Or can anybody direct me to a good PS2 forum where I could post my question? I posted my question on some forums, but didn't get answers yet, so I'd like to know if you know forums where I can get an answer...
