How good could a Zelda film be? We may/may not know that the series (in part) is based on a film, has anyone seen it? Would it be best based on a game or a new story? If a game, which one? Who'd star in it? direct it? I'd like to hear everyones thoughts.......

N.B sorry if this topic has been bought up before, i had a look but couldn't find but i may have missed it.... :?

I'd love to see a Zelda film if it was done well. Unfortunately the past films based on games have been pretty dire. Mario Bros, Streetfighter, Tombraider... the list could go on but I haven't bothered to see all the others because of terrible reviews.

If there was to be a Zelda film I'd love to see Peter Jackson do it. If he did to Zelda what he did to Lord of the Rings that would be fantastic. But whatever happens don't let Uwe Boll do it (the man behind House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark). Just look at his fan mail at IMDB:

The only reason I don't want Peter Jackson to do a Zelda game, is I don't want it to become a lot like LotR. Zelda has its own unquieness.

I see what you're saying but I don't think that should be a problem with Jackson. What was remarkable about LOTR was that he kept so faithful to the books while still making it a great movie. So both die hard fans and newcomers could enjoy it. Also his previous films were nothing like LOTR so he's certainly not a one trick pony. However the chances of him actually doing a Zelda film are pretty much zero so it's not really worth speculating over.

I hold it with Daynum, Peter Jackson would surely do a great job. I don't think that it would look like LotR, Jackson is a pro and pro enough not to make it similar.

But I wouldn't want Frodo for Link. :P

I'm pretty sure a Zelda movie would never work out. You can't have this little elf running around collecting rupees and pushing statues everywhere. They would have to change so much to make it work on film that it would hardly be recognizable as being a Zelda movie (much like the Final Fantasy movie).

I for one would rather see more movies about original things, just like I would like to see more original games. I'm tired of all these game/book/movie crossovers.

Naw, it'd be cool I think. They would have to make it in the right style, however. I think the Tomb Raider movies did a pretty good job of balancing what Hollywood "requires" and the games themselves. Anything can be made into a movie, it's just all about how you do it.

It's not about what Hollywood requires, but what is generally required by the medium in order for it to successfully tell an entertaining story. If it could be done, I would love to see it. It would definitely have to break convention though. Let's list off some of the things that would HAVE to be in order for it to satisfy an audience.

1. Hyrule would have to be immaculately constructed to give a sense of dire need when it is in peril. The audience would have to really wish the preservation of the land. Jackson did a fantastic job of this with Hobbitton in his rendition of LotR.

2. Ganon would have to be developped further than what he is in the games. He can't just be some monster who terrorizes the land for some reason.

3. Link would have to have people help him along the way to offer interesting dialogue and character interaction. He would not be able to save the world on his own. He would probably need to have a little brother on his adventure with him, or some sort of person who looks up to him. Navi would be there, but she wouldn't be enough on her own.

What else do you guys think would have to be so in order for the movie to work?

If they made it with computers like they did Final Fantasy it would be really cool, I think. Any thoughts on this?

It would have to be anime, and Japanese, because no western writers, producers, directors, or actors would ever take it seriously, or really care.

Back when it came out I actually liked the Mario Bros. movie...

Now it's just embarassing. Both the movie and the fact that I liked it.
