Anyone else know of this?

hmmmm... I don't know much about the hardware of the NES besides the lock-out chip, but that may be a mod worth attempting!!! I'm VERY into music, so I would love to hear some MM or NG blasted through my stereo... in stereo! Yeah, I'll definitely look further into this when I get some time.

Thanks for the link, Vermilion!

It sounds like it doesn't do anything though. Does your television not take the mono source and output it through both speakers anyway? Since the games were designed to have mono sound, they would probably sound best as they are.

Might be worth a try though.

The NES has 5 sound channels. It looks like all this mod does is split some channels to the left and some to the right. I don't see how that would really sound any better than the mono, especially since the music isn't written with stereo in mind.

yep, all that does is split the channels, it's still mono really. The cheaper and easier method is to just get an adapter that splits the mono for both sides, and it's really more or less the same thing.

Perhaps I'll just stick to the cheaper, easier method that I have right now then. :D I still think it'd be interesting to hear, however. If I can EVER get my hands on another NES, I may still do that just to see how it turns out.

Some TVs make a "quasi-stereo" out of a mono input.

that mod splits things in half, so you get the base lines and thingd from one speaker, and the melodies etc from the other.. it isnt the same as a splitter to play through two speakers, but it isnt alot more exciting anyway.
